Voted Britain’s greatest Briton of all time, Sir Winston Spencer Churchill. Very few great people make it to a UK postage stamp, but to be immortalised on a coin of the realm too, is rare indeed. Sir Winston Churchill was born in 1874 and died in January 1965 achieving his finest hours as a politician and leader of Britain during World War II. Following the resignation of Neville Chamberlain in May 1940, Churchill became the Prime Minister. Here he is immortalised on a stamp with his trademark Homburg hat and smoking a Havanna cigar, along with a special minted coin, a Crown, a coin in use prior to decimalisation in February 1971.
