2.0 - Categories and Pricing

Category Placement - We want to help you, the sound artist, get as many downloads as possible. In order to do so, the inspector team here at iStock will categorize your audio clips, so that you will get the maximum from your hard work. Here's an explanation of those categories:

Basic
We qualify a simple sample as an individual sound element. This can range from a ticking clock to an isolated instrument run, even a short loop of rhythm or atmosphere. Anything that is quite simple in nature and is used as an element of a larger more complex sound environment.

Detailed
A complex sample is more comprehensive, giving a range of potential uses. It could be a collection of 5 or more varied instrument runs or a section of music that has different feels within it, which can be looped.

Complex
This category represents audio that is usually longer in nature and is built to support things like video, media presentations and promotional uses in a more substantial way than a 4-bar loop run under a radio spot or a Web page.
