The iStockphoto® Civics Companion
4.6 Forums
The iStockphoto forums are the heart of our community experience. We strive at all times to maintain a high level of intelligence, relevance and respect in our forums, and invite members to explore past postings in all areas. Guidelines are posted in the forums in sticky posts, and should be read and understood completely before posting. These guidelines are frequently updated, so it's important to check back occasionally to make sure you're aware of the latest rules.
On the forums, members are encouraged to talk about whatever they want, but there are some topics we don't want discussed:
- Rejections
- Downloads you're unhappy with
- Your portfolios on other sites
- On-going Client Relations issues
- Spam or self-promotional messages
- Items for sale
- Work offers or job postings
The iStockphoto forums are often home to intense discussions of hot issues, and it should always be kept in mind that forums are monitored to ensure responsible discussion. Sometimes this means that a post will be deleted (without notice) because it falls short of a guideline, creates legal exposure, or just fails to meet our standards for discourse. Other times, it means that the Site Director (or other members of staff) will jump into a discussion and counter-post. It's important to remember that iStockphoto expects points and counter-points to be made intelligently and reserves the right to lock or delete threads it feels are going nowhere or damaging the community. We also reserve the right to revoke posting privileges for members that continually flame or cause problems. Remember: there's a difference between spirited, passionate (even forceful) discussion and outright flaming. The community watches and listens, so be prepared to stand by your statements.
iStockphoto does not actively restrict profanity or discussions of a suggestive nature, but asks that mature subject matter be handled responsibly, and only when it's really, really funny. Hate speech and racial slurs used against other members are never tolerated and will result in a ban from the site.
While we moderate the forums as best we can, we cannot be held responsible for monitoring every thread, censoring every inappropriate comment or discussion.
Unless specifically stated, forum content never represents an official position of iStockphoto®, even when made by an employee or Administrator. We will always make it clear when a comment is to be taken as iStock gospel.
Please be aware that the forums are openly viewed by anyone, including non-members, and consider any comments you make as being public. Pay attention to the same rules around libel, slander, etc. as you would in any other public venue.
