4.0 - Legal Standards

iStock makes every effort to conform to the International Copyright Act, (with Jurisdiction in Canada). http://laws.justice.gc.ca/en/C-42/index.html


Uploading someone else's work or derivative of work is strictly prohibited and a violation of the iStock membership agreement. You must be the copyright holder (flash developer) of the file you submit. Uploading any of the following is strictly prohibited and may result in a lifetime ban or legal action:


  1. Flash tutorials not created by yourself.
  2. Stolen code or freeware flash files/code taken from an outside source.
  3. Inclusion of sound loops of which you are not the creator.
  4. Inclusion of elements (such as photographs) which you are not the sole copyright holder.

Legal protection is very important to the iStock community and should be adhered to as closely as possible. As a flash developer uploading your images to iStock, you will find that our inspectors do not accept files that contain:


Do Not Submit: (image examples)
7.1 Logos & Trademarks:
logos, trademarks, company names, product names, product brands or trademarked and patented designs
7.2 Patented & Trademarked
Product Designs:
most modern toys, many brand name watches, brand name computers and other licensed products.
7.3 Documents:
Modern maps, documents where names are mentioned, computer screens (interfaces and icons are copyrighted).
7.5 Derivative Illustration:
Traced illustrations based on stock photography, fashion editorials, etc. for which do not own the original copyright.
7.6 - Embedded Copyright Notices:
7.7 - Government & Military Property:
Agency insignia, military decorations, golden eagles and Presidential seals.
