Posted Thu Sep 24, 2009 1:29PM | Seems many people are complaining about accidentally changing the language when trying to access their 'My uploads' listing. A very simple solution would be to interchange the 'My Uploads' and 'Mail' icons on the toolbar. Literally a two minute task on the css style sheet. |
Posted Thu Sep 24, 2009 2:16PM | Even better would be to stash the Language in the Control Panel. I mean, how often would anyone change the language anyway? Unless they have multiple personality disorder, that is. |

It really could be swapped with almost anything on the page. It's just a bad spot.
But you know what I think is the real problem? The drop down menu. If that menu flew out to the side instead of dropping down over the portfolio button, I wouldn't have this problem.

Not that I am against your suggestion, but I guess the reason why it's there, so prominent and easy to access rather than hidden in the control panel is, that it should be easy to select a language for new potential clients visiting the site for the first time without even having a user profile.
Imagine a potential new buyer who does not speak English, quickly losing interest in iStock because he couldn't figure out within 15 seconds how to change the language. Would be a real pity, and other microstock sites are just a mouse-click away...
I remember how we used to tease friends and colleagues by changing the language settings of their mobile phones to Turkish or even more exotic languages without them knowing. It was pretty funny for us, but not for them, to see them navigating through the menues of their mobile phone like complete analphabets!
Not what you want to do to our beloved customers. Right?

Yes but I was trying to suggest a solution that would need minimal CSS coding there by negating the response 'it would be too much work'. I agree there are more possible solutions than languages in the drop down list |

I think current place for language select is OK. But I'd really be happy, if list of languages could wait for mouselick, not just rollover like now.
I'm the next guy who sees this list way too many times every day |

Agreed! |
Posted Sat Oct 10, 2009 12:27PM | ^^ Yep, I agree. Or even just a small delay before it pops up would do miracles. |
Posted Sat Oct 10, 2009 2:20PM | Same applies to the rollovers on image thumbnails in searches / portfolios. Surely larger versions should pop up if you hover over the image, not if you just happen to pass over it. There is no feeling of control in the process. |
Posted Mon Oct 12, 2009 1:56PM | I agree with the slight delay idea. Both for the language selector, and the image thumbnails as Roger suggests. |

Like most sites with a membership, it has a 'logged in' state, and a 'not logged in' state. For example the Excusivity Program section of the Forum only appears when logged in. So it should be simple enough to remove the language selector module and hide it in the control panel area for those of us who are logged in, as we should already be in our chosen language. |
