OMG, 150 € for a 1GB USB stick without display. 15 hours of music therefore non-navigable e.g. album by album. A battery lifetime which is less than the minutes of music you can store + a battery pack which is more expansive than even other processor controlled rechargers (incl. accus).

Less features for more money than usual.

Must be an Apple thing indeed.

idd, don't believe the hype! ...if you look a bit further... like me, I wanted an mp3 player looked at the i-pod witch was nice, but also looked at the competition, result: I bought me a archos gemini 400, wich has the same capacity as the i-pod(20 gigs) plays mp3, wma, etc... is about 15% cheaper, has beter battery life and ALSO plays divx, mpeg4, games and for me most important of all, has a compact flash slot where you can upload your pictures onto the hd and view them too! (even i-pod photo doesn't do that).

On the other hand the mini-mac shure gets my attention as an alternative to a barebone I wanted as multimedia center.

Let me see... a pos MAC with 256MB RAM which seems to be barely enough to run it's own OS. No keyboard, no mouse (which isnt that big a deal but c'mon you don't have to be THAT cheap) or a fully loaded PC for about the same price. This is the perfect example of the MAC mentality I can't stand. No doubt it's a step in the right direction, but for me it's too little too late.

Maybe next time.

The classic excuse they just sent to /dev/null!

That was a witty response though!

mm, there are a ton other excuses, but I will not mention them, cause it has no point at all. It's like "what car" an BMW or a mercedes..., everyone has its own favorite which he feels comfortable to use...

PS: I would pick the Mercedes!

jpsowin they did no such thing (although they are getting closer). If the mini mac came with the upgrades of the 1.4GHz, 80GB hard drive (I'm hoping those are at least 7400), 512 ram and maybe the super drive, keyboard and mouse for $499 then I would probably give it to them they can now compete with the pcs a lot better. Not only that I might actually have gone out and bought one (although I would still probably put up a fight).

Mercedes?? Whats wrong with you!!! Doesnt Chrysler own Mercedes now?? BMW all the way baby, M3 to be exact! Ok... I need a moment...

Sorry... I just like trouble. :P

Anyone seen the new MacMini?

Certainly not nearly as powerful as a dual processor G5 - it actually looks like a repackaged G4 cube - but its totally affordable. Its the answer to my small budget and massive computer problems...

Oh yeah, they have a $99 iPod now too...

YUP!

You should view the Jobs Quicktime keynote (is it an hour and a half?). They mention the new iPod Shuffle, which it not only CHEAPER than the competition your talking about, it's about the size of a pack of gum and there is about twice as much memory. the most expensive Shuffle offers is the same cost as the best competition, and has tons more memory.

I'm seriously tempted by the MacMini, totally suitable for what I'd use it for. £449 for the 80Gb 1.42 Mhz model with memory upgrade or £323 just for a G4 1Ghz upgrade processor for my G3 B&W (about the last thing I can upgrade on it.

Just need to save some money now.

why is mac always attacking the pc with bull**t?

"Or one 3D game. Go ahead, just try to play Halo on a budget PC. Most say they’re good for 2D games only. That’s because an “integrated Intel graphics” chip steals power from the CPU and siphons off memory from system-level RAM. You’d have to buy an extra card to get the graphics performance of Mac mini, and some cheaper PCs don’t even have an open slot to let you add one."

they compare the mini with a radeon 9200 to a all-in mo-bo. LOOOL

I like the video part where the iPod Shuffle is introduced. It's so full of half-lies ... It starts with a joke - no, even if you own a non-Apple MP3 flash player you don't have to spend hundreds of dollars for batteries (like he claims) - as an intelligent human beeing you can use accus as well. Then he explains the "shuffle" function as the greatest discovery in years - well, this shuffle function is already implemented in so many existing USB sticks ... And while he is talking about prices of 149$* as a sweet spot for the competitors, there is a 256 MB Creative MuVo in the background. OMG, even the Creative 512 MB MuVo TX FM is cheaper than 149 EUR*, and the new 1 GB MuVo costs 160 EUR*, has got a display and even a build-in FM tuner ... Seems as if he was not up-to-date or didn't want to be.

(* the German EUR prices for Apple products are about 1:1 to the prices in US$)
