I never noticed the 'Viewed:' field - it seems that the number of times an image is viewed is shown in a file's specs. I think that's great - just wondering when it started 'counting' from? I didn't see this topic on the forums anywhere else...

You must have skipped all the posts about the big change. It started Jan 4, with the other changes.

Now if we can only get it into the myDownloads page to be able to rank by that.

it started when it was created.. so if an image had 0 DLs... it started off with 0 views... if it had 1000 DLs.. it started off with 1000 views.. so basically the number of DLs is the number viewed when it was changed

I'm viewed images of my own that said "0" views, so if it counts your own, it must do it _after_ you visit, and if it did, how would you know?

This was already covered in another discussion. Because of the switchover to the new system and the addition of these new features, the "Viewed" counter is a count of the number of views an image has had, but seeing as this data wasn't tracked before now, the logical thing to do is simply set the initial number of views to the number of downloads, because, in theory, an image *must* have been viewed *at least* that number of times. View counts are then incremented from that point on.

I'm still trying to figure out why everybody is so excited about the "viewed" statistic. What good is it?

With a little portfolio like mine, I don't get a ton of downloads per day. At least I can see whether people have noticed my stuff, even if they didn't choose to D/L it. That's what I like it for.

I suppose if I had two similar images (ones that could have the same set of keywords) I could set them up with different keyword sets and use the "viewed" statistic to see which set of keywords was more effective.

I guess it's pleasurable and gives positive reinforcement. But if you're getting a lot of views but no downloads, what does that tell you? Honestly, I don't know the answer.

thanks for the explanation, guys. it's always tough to find a tidbit of information buried in these huge threads. i doubt i would have found the mention of this feature.

I think it also shows that there is interest in a certain type of image, even if it wasn't downloaded. Maybe some refinements could boost sales.

"And exlude your own viewing clocking it up"

I think the "viewed" stat should show up on the My Uploads page. That way you can check the number without adding to the total.

one of several things:
  • you're using keywords you shouldn't be!
  • your picture is really cool, but not what most people want, so they click it for fun, and then move on
  • your picture looks good in the thumbnail, but not on the close-up page
  • you're gremlin or efenzi

I think if you are NOT getting a lot of views, then your keywords surely need to be tweaked.

Um, either that or maybe your photo is not very good.
