isn't there the possibility that clever people put 6 of 8 pictures togeter of a zoomed istock image so that they get a full sized image?
this way people can even remove the istock watermark.

Yes this IS possible. It`s about 1-2 hours of hard "puzzle work" in photoshop. But is possible.
I think sollution is something like "partial zoom" - You can zoom image, but not all.
Sorry for my english.

I think anyone who is really concerned should just try doing it. Invest in the software, hardware and time, then take a look at your result. You are going to find out that spending a dollar is a much wiser choice and you won't worry so much anymore.

The zoom feature is one of the best things iStock has available imho. This one feature will probably increase the number of visitors to the site and it follows that sales will increase. Why on earth would anyone want to limit their sales potential?

Yes, NO WAY we can limit the functionality of the zoom. It is so useful.

If anyone is willing to spend two hours in PhotoShop to save $1 - they probably should be looking into finding higher paying clients or, steal from google image search, its free, and most people think its royalty free.

well fountain if you had a 6.1 million pixel camera or size, this means that it's a whopping 37.2 million possibilities.... Can't wait to spend halve your life uploading them

How'd you come up with 37.2 million possibilities? My math yielded 99,488,250,000,000 distinct images. I figure each pixel has 255 x 255 x 255 different options. 16.5 million possibilities per pixel x 6 million pixels = roughly 100 trillion images.

I agree that the zoom function has an important sales additive but:

just for proof of concept i tried it om my own pictures at 1x zoom

it takes about 8 of 10 copy/pasts to rip a picture into 630x630 pix. More then enough for website use.

Watermark almost automaticly dissapears beacause offset changes with each photo. a little extra eraser action's on a watermarkstripe reveals the layer below without the stripe.

i took me about 3 min.

Now i'm Not trying to write a manual how to do this, but if i can figure it out, imagine what the others could think up.

If the Zoom would have a extra cross (top to bottom and left to right in the middle) it would become much harder.

Anyone who spends the time patching together 30 or so watermarked images to recreate a (more compressed) version of one of my photographs can have it for free.

Contact me with your entries. The winner will receive three credits to download the image.

What if the watermark changed randomly. Still the same logo in the middle, but the lines changed format, diagonal, horizontal, vertical, etc. Surely that combined with a pixel offset would put off all but the lowest slime ?
