How difficult is the move to Istockpro?

I was looking at the Istockpro site and the picture size limits and all my 3 camera rating pictures here and wondering if I should give it a shot. I was alittle more encouraged by downloads, comments, and finding the thread that said lots of admins just approve at 3 and let it sit.

It's sort of a costly commitment for me (making stuff go into the saltwater costs more and my current setup is just under the 6mp size they are looking for), and getting to a 100 photo portfolio takes a while when you can only shoot for an hour at a time and then need to get another tank of air. Fortunatlly I'm in a good location and can probably get enough sessions in about a year of diving.

How common is it for an istockphoto photgrapher to get into the istockpro site?

You can make some good money there!

This pure yellow square is apparently going for the incredible bargain price of $19.95 + S&H

But it's a vector yellow square, you can scale it up and everything. It's got to be worth it!

Yes! You're right I suppose! Although, they could sell a one pixel yellow gif and, it too, could be scaled up without obvious interpolation Then again, I guess that just doesn't sound as glamorous as a vector.

Cool underwater pictures, btw

Well, as long as nobody finds out the hex value, which is #FEF200, then the artist should be just fine... ooops.

Perhaps it is what's hidden under the yellow square that is worth $19.95.

Well, yea, when you look at it that way. But with the vector square you can rotate it, then scale, fewer restrictions on the designer.

Cool underwater pictures, btw :)

Thanks. After 3 years and 25,000 photos, even a blind squirle finds an acorn. If I could just schedule model time with preferred fish species.

Well, I signed up over there not too long ago. I don't have 100 pics uploaded on there yet though. Only about 20ish. I gotta say, I haven't had one single download, so it's a little more than disappointing...BUT...I don't consider myself to be the world's best photographer or anything and there's a lot of REALLY good stuff on the pro site that I have to compete with. I figure hey...it doesn't cost me much to throw my stuff out there...and maybe someone MIGHT be able to use one of my photos...who knows?

I plan to go exclusive as soon as I hit bronze here...and apparently I can still be with istockpro AND istockphoto as they are the same company...so I plan to hang in there with both sites and see where they take me.

I can say this, the comaraderie on the pro site seems to really be lacking...I realize the site isn't intended to be a real "community" like this one is...but they only have the one forum for the photographers there...no "threads"...just one long run-on thing...lol...it's kind of funny. So far, I've been pretty bored overall...but I do enjoy looking at other people's stuff. I still remain hopefuly that someday...I might sell an image. LOL! Stranger things have happened.

Interestingly enough, there's a 2-page inside cover full color ad for iStockPro in this month's Mac Design magazine.

My take on it is that istockphoto is my preferred option because I like the micro payments system. That said, I'm taking a lot of photos with a Canon 1dMarkII, and I get a lot of initial rating threes too - so don't let that discourage you.

I keep looking at all the new DSLRs and think, I can get a 300d housed and strobed for about $2500, and then feature creep sets in.
(Really need the macro,
and wide angle and the ports; and then have to choose which to use on the dive; and if I'm getting a good lenses, why not 8 or 14mp body and BAM! $8k in the water waiting for a cat hair on the O-ring.)

I know that if the wife comes home and I have the 16mp hasselblad back, custom housing and an $15k credit card bill, I'm a dead man.

I had the same, although most of my pictures are landscapes, I have not yet received a donwload there in the 4 months that I've been there.

I intend to shoot some more now and do alot more studio stuff, and then give it a good bash.

Another thing is getting a busy portfolio going here before I'm going to put alot more attention into the pro site, I think patience is the biggest thread!
