I don't know if this is a suggestion or a discussion, so I'll err on it being the latter. Maybe I just haven't found the right contortions to achieve what I think should be commonplace.

There are a lot of galleries, and there are even more thumbnails. It would seem that a big part of the community effort is trying to bring these together. But right now, all I see is the gallery owner side, and not the photographer side, of this transaction.

If I shoot a couple of images that I know would be good for someone else's popular gallery, I'd like to send them a quick site note that shows the thumbnail and tells them which of their galleries it may fit. Of course, it's still up to the gallery owner to think about it, and reject or accept it into that gallery.

When I tried to do this manually, I found a number of annoyances. Even a tabbed browser had a hard time bringing useful information together.

* If I view a listing of galleries, I see the gallery owner's name, but if I view an individual gallery, I don't see the owner's name. Am I missing something?

* If I view a thumbnail, there's a link "add it to a gallery" but that only lets me add it to my own. Why can't I list a gallery that someone else owns, and it form the basic site mail (complete with thumbnail and brief "thought this might go with your gallery" note) for me?

* Is there an extension to UBB which makes thumbnails easy? I would think [ thumb://123456 ] would be a great way to enter a given thumbnail number, and it would show up in the message as a clickable thumbnail.

subman, sure, thanks, I know abou the long way, but compare:

[ img ] http://www.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve.php?size=1&id=78403 [ /img ]

Or

[ thumb://78403 ]

I mean, convenience, guys. Even with cut and paste from the URL, it would be faster to type the latter.

But that's just gravy on top of the main subject, and that's gallery recommends.

even simpler way for thumbnails would be for you to use laurieks bookmark ubb image inserter found here for single images at a time (adds the thumbnail, and also the link to the preview page.

or this page for adding multiple thumbs to multiple pages also by lauriek

Sounds like this is more of a suggestion (we should be able to do it this way) than a discussion (how do I do this).

I agree that there should be an easier way to add an istock image.

I think there are a lot of people who just can't figure out how to use ubb, so they either never try or just mess it up every time.

How often do you see something like this in the forums?
http://www.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve.php?id=392315

or in the photo request forum:
Image number: 392315
