I know it's not really a big deal but I just realized that I have my silver canister now! Doing the dance of joy!

How crazy it is that this has made my day!

Cheers to Istock! :]

Sorry, I didn't even know what a "woo-yay" WAS let alone that it had it's own thread. Sorry for not being a forum junkie.

Thanks anywayz!

Woo-Yay. woo-YAE, n.

A noise of excitement and delight, most often associated with members of, and contributers to, the website iStockPhoto.com.

The sound is generally used to express jubilation at significant milestones in a member's career (canister color change, first check, something-of-the-week, image on most popular list, etc.) and is often misused by newbies to express insignificant milestones (first successful upload, first download, first $1, first $10, first $15, first $20, first initial review other than 2, first time an image was put into a gallery, discovery of lightbox, etc.)

I know that people should use the Woo-yay thread, but I'd like to just add a gentle comment in relation to the statement below:

^ I agree actually. I dont see why we cant celebrate the individual posts when they appear. OK so technically is should go in the woo-yay thread but is it really a biggie if the person (newbie or not) misses that for some reason?

CONGRATS on your silver thingy (canister that is )

I think it depends on what is being celebrated. Obviously we don't want every newbie posting when they get their first $1, $5, $10, 10 d/ls, etc, etc, but a silver, gold, or even diamond canister takes commitment and effort.

Highly trafficked boards usually have to deal with these sort of posts summarily, because if allowed to proliferate, they would bump all the other posts off the front page (since the forum sorts by last post).

If the forum shows the last 20 active posts, and the last 20 are all woo-yah threads, there's no longer any real content to the istock discussion forum.

Unlike many other active boards which try to maintain substantive content, istock is perfectly tolerant of thread-jacking, thread-crapping.

Sort of mixed messages to posters/readers.

And, yes, I am aware of the irony of my post bumping this thread once again to the top of the forum.

Not a bad idea at all. That way, it'll be a bit clearer to Newbies where to go to make their celebratory postings.

Wow. That's pretty harsh. The woo-yay thread starts like this:

Bring em' on!
What's happening in your world?
Events we can all celebrate.
and
Pocketbook jingling experiences.
Post them here so we can celebrate with you.

There are posts about Christmas presents, vacations, baths, haircuts and job promotions. I thought that this was an open thread and didn't realize that some were not considered important enough. It would be nice if this was made clearer in the opening of the thread. Like:

Bring em' on! (no newbies, please)

What's happening in your world? (only if you have a bronze canister or better}

Events we can all celebrate. (but only if we think they are important enough)

and

Pocketbook jingling experiences. (actually, don't bother us with your jingles, we only want to hear about rolls of paper}

Post them here so we can celebrate with you. (unless we think you're a waste of good forum space)

Something to maybe keep in mind for those of you constantly bothered and annoyed by newbies attempting to take part in your club... many of us were downloaders way before we ever became uploaders. We could be some of the very ones putting that "jingle" in your pocketbook. How important are we now?

I have visited the woo-yay thread, and yes, thought everyone was welcome. That is why I was so surprised by the comments made in this thread stating that the newbies should not be posting such trivial accomplishments, and that their participation in the woo-yay thread is tiresome and childish.

I'm glad not everyone feels that way.

Well thanks from those who didn't get their panties in a knot and sorry to those I've pissed off with my "happy" post simply because I was in a good mood, having a good day and my petty silver canister made it even more so that I wanted to post and share in these forums.

I'll be sure post about my next bowel movement in the PROPER forum.

P.S. Sorry to bump my meaningless forum to the "oh-so" important top spot for a few minutes.
