Didn't know where to put this question , so...

I was wondering about general use of models for photographers here. Specifically these questions:

1) Do you generally pay your models or try to find people who will work for free or other minor compensation?

2) For payment, what kind of rates would models get for a session?

3) Is there anything else about using models I should know?

I'm just interested, because it seems that paying models a great deal would seriously eat into your 20-40% payment from istockphoto.

Thank you.

There's a newer thread (bit longer too) around somewhere - I think it was somewhere in the main forum a couple of months ago.

I have had a great deal of luck finding some great people by putting an ad on Craigslist. I offer a cd of the shoot for their portfolio, and some monetary compensation. So they get images for their portfolio they would have had to pay for, plus exposure, and a little cash for dinner :>. You can check my portfolio for the people I've been working with.
