If you've never heard of A List Apart, you're missing out on the best web design and technical resource around. Founded by Jeffrey Zeldman, the newly redesigned site relaunched quietly sometime over the past couple days. How modest...

That's pretty sweet. I have always liked his site. His books are great as well.

That site has been an incredible and invaluable resource. I'm really liking the new layout. I'd like to read more about the new backend publishing system that's been talked about though.

Wow ... 960px wide.

I suspect that width will have an impact on a lot of other websites.

That's awesome, we are entering the wider screen as the norm. This will be quite interesting.

The site looks great.

All I get is a blank white page... it would certainly qualify as a minimalist design... not very informative thought

I check out all my sites and customers sites and about 35-50 percent of people are using 1024 screen width but 25-35 percent still use 800 which mean i will still base my designs on a 800x600 screen size since I do not want people to h0rizontally scroll which is freaking annoying. Besides the text on a 1024 screen has to be bigger for people to read it.

The reason I feel people are using larger display sizes is all the new computers that are already set to the larger screen resolution, since most unsaavy computer people do not even know how to reset the size. So I beleive it is still too early to jump the gun when one fourth or more of your sites visitors still use 800x600 we still may need to wait a little longer till that number is far more managable.

A very typical Zeldman design! Neat, simple and stylish. And of course we all know what a tremendous ressource ALA is. Very cool!

As for the 960px width, I think it's safe to say that ALA targets an audience that you'd expect to have a resolution higher than 800x600.

I agree with a site for designers going above the 800*600 because most designers have a larger screen resolution. But they could have made the font sizes bigger then freaking tiny text sux. If people are going to design a wider site make the fonts bigger and easy to read, seems like I will have to whip out my magnifying glass. Site is up now, not blank anymore. Ehh kinda boring simple design looks like most other Blog Sites.
