If you missed the news: we are redesigning iStockphoto and the first phase goes live in August. This F5 project is huge and we've been working on it a long time. Right now the whole office is in high gear making sure it all goes smoothly. It's a real hands-on-deck situation for us.

Now the office is usually pretty busy in August anyway, for different reasons. We have two different annual events in that month. Here's how they'll be affected:

Battle Royale
As the peanuts in the Steel Cage will tell you, the Battle Royale would ordinarily be in high gear by this point of the summer. And August 2010 also marks the 5th anniversary of our annual Steel Cage tournament.

We will be having our 5th annual Battle Royale, and it will start soon. Look for the qualifying contest to get started in August shortly after the new site goes live.

Punctum Day
August 19th is Punctum Day. Given the timeframe for the F5 project, that date isn't going to work this year. There's just too much going on over the next two months to give it the attention it needs on our end. So we will be pushing the date for Punctum back into the late fall this year.

In addition to moving Punctum back in the calendar we'll also make some changes to how it works. We want to get more of the community involved in the part that its supposed to be about: celebrating and rewarding the best content here at iStockphoto. Please note though that we will NOT be doing the 100% royalty day anymore.

So – Battle Royale will be on soon. Punctum Day will be moved back to the late fall.

Thanks for the info

I was really crossing my fingers for the 100% day this year since sales are treating me well ... but figured it wouldn't last forever. But still looking forward to the new site and Punctum celebrations!

Hopefuly Punctum Day will also be a celebration of the on time and glitch free roll out of the "F5 Project!"

I hear you Nicole.

It really just comes down to cost. It's a big one-day outlay of money from our end. When we look at what the actual benefit ends up being for the community though, we just don't think its the best use of our resources. While a few contributors get a big one-time bonus, the large majority don't really see much out of it.

Ah, well that's disappointing. At least with 100%, all exclusives were guaranteed something for their efforts. I never win 'contests', so I doubt the day will be much to look forward to for me or 99% of contributors. It was sort of like the bonus at work for doing a good job all year. Now it sounds like work switched over to entering us into a contest for 5 hams or something.

Yep - made a big difference to an otherwise generally poor month (August) for me. It was only one day out of 365 after all sad

Cancelling 100% day is more F-off than F5.

Withdrawal of that perk hardly a surprise, next move will be a reduction in royalties ?

Damn it Sean, do you have to be so negative? If you don't want to spend 24hrs working for iStock by repeatedly spamming Twitter with #iStockhamday, just so you get the chance to get your name in a prize draw hat, nobody is forcing you to.

Seriously though, I loved 100% royalty day and am glad they had it in the past even if we may not have it in the future. I guess that perk has served its purpose. Here's hoping for future fun (and funds) to celebrate Punctum day.
