Hey Ben,

If I finish with all my shots from Melbourne by the end of January, I will consider it. I avoid downtown Brisbane like the plague though, so I don't know how good I would be at finding venues....

I'll probably do a flying visit to whichever city we settle on to identify/approach a bunch of venues in the New Year. Not gonna commit to a city other than Melbourne though if there aren't people help out with some of the logistics like recruiting models, local MUAs etc.

It's also doing some of the other stuff like seeing what funding support is available from local councils, getting permits etc...those sorts of things that I need help with.

So it looks like we've already missed a window of opportunity for Brisvegas. Anyone up there know of other arts grants?

What about some choice locations?

Yeah I think I'd prefer that to weddings ...

I don't mind doing a flying visit as well to help get things organised Ben. Models and MUA's I suspect are easier to organise than locations and council permits etc. I guess we have something to show them now though which should make it easier (?) I know I can probably get some places in Adelaide without too much hassle, just not sure about another city that I don't know anyone. But hey I'll give it a shot

Already done. He's Manuel when it comes to Brisvegas, but has had some good suggestions for the surrounding areas.

I'm trying to imagine Che with a mo ...looking like Manuel when asked about Brisvegas..ha .. "Ce ?"

Ok a wedding on a beach in bikinis would be ok. Especially if the celebrant is dressed like Elvis or something. A flying visit at end of Jan is ok with me. Or I could go another separate time to do other negotiations. My mother has recently moved to Cairns so it will give me a chance to kill two birds with one stone here

We have a genuine celebrant up here who does the whole Elvis wedding thing, we better be careful about stepping on his toes lol!

I didn't know Che was up here?

I could put out the feelers for MUA but don't know about models ...

As for locations ... sorry not up to speed on those either ... it kinda depends on what we are looking for.

I am heading to Cairns again at the beginning of February (more surgery for the father person) but up till then I may be able to help a little.

I'm taking the same approach as the one we just did: try and get as many good locations as possible, and build your themes around that.

I did loosely base my search for venues around the idea of "what makes Melbourne, Melbourne", but that didn't get me very far.

General rule though, is:
- holds at least 6 photographers comfortably for 4-6hrs of shooting (minimum unique 3 setups)
- has space for the MUAs to work, and for models to get changed (should also be secure)
- willing to do a contra arrangement ie: free
- ideally, doesn't require permits or public liability insurance (these add to overheads and paperwork)

The last two are more for the elimination process rather than identifying potentials though.

I am making plans to be there from the 26th-30th January to do initial scouting of the different location possibilities, and where possible, meeting with venue owners.

Let's start building some lists on here of potential locations and venues. The Melbourne shoot taught me it's not a bad thing to reach for the impossible. You can always deal with reality later smile

This blog is certainly feeling like a good starting point.

The humidity/heat may make me regret visiting at that time of year, but hopefully it'll be worth it.

Looking at all options at this point Wendy, so long as it's within 90mins drive of the Brisbane CBD.

Days are not set at this point, but probably somewhere between 2 and 4.

Awesome... yup I can definately help out with locations south of Brisbane... I know a few in and around the city, Plus a few nice studios there but really dont head to Brisbane a great deal.

If you start getting in themes I could definately suggest some locations.
Obviously the gold coast is very young and out doorsy with a good mix themes that could be explored.
Just a couple that come to mind
surf and beach culture
BBQ's
Camping
Partying (club scene)
Healthy lifestyle
bush walks, hiking etc in rainforst
water sports
boating
fishing
tourism

Obviously Brisbane has a slightly different feel.
Its kind of a relaxed city which may make it either difficult or easy to gain access to locations.
Themes that could be explored
Traditional Queenslander home lifestyle and australian living
Parks social (cricket, pic nic, fitness, pets etc)
Business (Brisbane is a little more coprerate then the coast)
Fashion
sports (very sporting city)

Sushine Coast is very similar to Gold Coast but obviously further way from airports etc.

I think something worth considering would be hiring a bus to get around to locations as public transport isnt as good as other cities plus gives some flexibilty on what and where the group goes, for example beach in the morning, rainforest in the afternoon.
