Now with editorial content iStock has a use for both copyrighted content and their corresponding keywords. Unfortunately, we don't have all the KWs so this here is a place for you to post your editorial keyword requests and any info relating to these KWs.

UPDATE: Instead of there being two places where people can suggest editorial/non-editorial KWs I've decided to tidy things up a bit and create a single location for ALL KW requests. While I understand there is still a good chunk of terms we don't have, I'm going to ask your term suggestions here are for site-accepted content only. Thx. KW away.

/The keyword issues I've been having include a lot pf political KWs. A few ideas:

-[name of Country] politics. (i.e. American politics)
-Political figures. While I know iStock isn't wanting photos of celeberities, I have a photo of a McCain/Palin bumper sticker and while John McCain has a KW, Sarah Palin doesn't.
-The "Tea Party"
-Topical words like "Immigration reform," "Pork barrel spending," etc.

Just some ideas but I'm new around here. Hope to be of help though.

If we don't have a KW relevant to editorial content, I want you to post yr request. We will deal with each KW on a case by case basis and post regularly updated lists on added KWs once editorial is live. In the meantime, i will update KW request statuses in this forum.

Every corporate name and chain store/restaurant. That alone could keep someone busy for a few weeks or months.

Agreed. Not to mention every theme park, every product and every city and town name.

Universal Studios Theme Park, Orlando
Universal Islands of Adventure Theme Park, Orlando
Universal City Walk, Orlando
Walt Disney World, Orlando
The Magic Kingdom Theme Park
Cinderella Castle
Epcot Theme Park
Spaceship Earth
Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park
The Tree of Life
Disney's Hollywood Studios Theme Park
Advil
Tylenol
Motrin
Johnson & Johnson
Pepsi
Coca-Cola
Sony
Panasonic

etc.

There had to be more software development than just having people manually post every word on Earth, yes?

Si, oui and yes. That said, not everything is necessarily gonna be available via the Big G.

IMPORTANT!!!!!

As an example .... if we add Pepsi to our keywords ... but you add it with the company name PepsiCo .... does this mean at some point we will have to go back through ALL OUR FILES and DA them like we did a couple years ago?

Lets get this system correct .... before we upload too many files..... please.

Agreed. We will batch images with editorial terms so that the terms DA correctly and are properly searchable.

I meant more like, having all new "user added" terms shunted through an automated pipeline to be approved/added to the CV, with notes going back to the user about the term being changed, or there being an existing term. etc. Not so much that Getty has already added a lot of stuff.

Noted. I think this is unlikely in the short-term but still a very good idea. I'll pass it along and keep you posted when it's in the pipeline.

/More fast food: Dunkin Donuts, Long John Silver, Kristy Kreme, Little Ceasar's, KFC, Jack in the Box.

Also mid level restaurant chains don't seem to be available yet either: TGIF, Ruby Tuesday, Red Lobster, Applebee's, IHOP, Denny's, Chili's, Cheesecake Factory, and many many more.

This does seem to be a backwords manner of operation. We will constantly be playing catchup and falling further and further behind. You would think, first off, with Getty being King of Editorial, all these common American names would already be in the CV, but most are not. Even if they were, there are still going to be tens' of millions of names, brands, products, stores, restaurants and corporations world wide. Why not just allow free form searchable "other" keyword fields?

UPDATE: Dunkin’ Donuts (Brand-Name), Long John Silver’s (Brand-Name), Krispy Kreme (Brand-Name), Little Caesars (Brand-Name), KFC (Brand-Name), Jack in the Box (Brand-Name), T.G.I. Fridays (Brand-Name), Ruby Tuesday (Brand-Name), Red Lobster (Brand-Name), Applebee’s (Brand-Name), IHOP (Brand-Name), Denny’s (Brand-Name), Chili’s (Brand-Name), and The Cheesecake Factory (Brand-Name) are part of the CV.

Nintendo defaults to generic "arcade game", not to the brand name or corporation.

Shell petroleum (Royal Dutch Shell). Had to cancel an upload of a Shell petrol filling station when the DA only offered meanings like "seashell" etc. Thanks, David.

Just add all companies represented in the Fortune 500 (and similar lists).

Then continue with all major stock exchanges all over the world.

That would be a good start.

I can tell this is going to go swimmingly.

Walt Disney World and Magic Kingdom both DA simply to "Disney".

By the way, "Harry Potter" is a fictional character. Not "Daniel Radcliffe".

By the way, I don't think the system likes apostrophes and ampersands. That would be a problem.

That's been suggested repeatedly since Editorial was announced in December. I would think it would have to be a separate search option since it would have to be some kind of free word search like Google uses. It would have its disadvantages, but would be better than trying to play catchup with an almost unlimited number of new controlled vocabulary words and phrases.

By the way, Getty apparently has some type of caption search facility for its editorial content. I searched on Getty for several restaurant chain names that are not in our CV and found images of those places even though the listed keywords for the images did not include the brand name, but the caption did.

In other words, the search found images of Denny's, IHOP and Ruby Tuesday, even though the names were not in the listed keywords, but were mentioned in the caption only.
