Hi, here's an image that just got rejected on these grounds: ++ android robot & space invaders  & the phone is too similar to an iphone++

I expected the robot would be too close to the Android robot for Istockphoto. Personally I think it's different enough, plus the Android robot symbol has a Creative Commons usage license, but fair enough.

The Space Invader & Iphone similarity seems too strict though. The phone is a cartoony image of a generic touchscreen phone (no Iphone circular button), & the retro pixel symbol isn't based on any Space Invader sprites (more like the Defender ship, but still different).

I'll resubmit this as an editorial illustration (best place for it anyway), but am still concerned about the smartphone & retro sprite rejection since I've got a couple of other stock illos with similar things that I'd like to submit.

Thanks & sorry for moaning smile

We aren't currently accepting editorial illustrations. With just a few changes this could be accepted in the regular vector collection here. The robots head does look very much like the Adroid Robot. Even if it is in the creative commons we wouldn't accept it unless you changed the head a bit more. The phone would look more generic if you changed the color of that silver frame around it. The game piece does like a space invaders character so the inspector was just trying to protect you as with the other two things. Making it look more generic is in your best interest. Nice drawing

Thanks for the reply Diane, I'll make some changes & resubmit.

About Istock not accepting editorial illos - does that mean all non-photographic images, or just no vector artwork? I've got some 3d-rendered & raster illustrations that I was thinking of submitting...

To my knowledge, we have not yet begun accepting editorial illustrations (raster or vector). When we announced editorial they did say that there we were staring with photos only and that vector & video may be accepted at some time in the future. Here's the editorial forum in case you haven't been there   I'm sorry I don't have more info

I've actually seen exact copies of the Google ANDROID robot accepted to istock lately. Don't know if this was just overlooked or maybe its not trademarked (which I doubt).

Perhaps they were not recognized by the inspectors when they were inspected (people can't recognize everything). You are always welcome send the file numbers to CE(AT)istockphoto.com if you see potential copyright issues

I would, but then I would have to charge istock.

Had a go at tweaking the character to look less Android-like & came up with this multitasking robot:

So, do you think this one would pass inspection?
