![]() ![]() Posted Tue Apr 26, 2011 4:26PM | The Vetta collection takes its name from the Italian word for ‘Peak,’ and has been designed to portray the peak of creativity at iStock. As we look ahead to the launch of Vetta Video, how does this direction take form within the iStockvideo collection? We’ll outline some initial guidelines below that are leading us as we begin to answer this question. Rarity – Files that stand out and have few peers, if any. Directing – Achieving believable performances and convincing environments, whether naturalistic or fantasy-based. Art Direction – Environments and compositions that are considered or designed, and present a strong visual impact. Conceptual Strength – Thought-provoking new ideas and unique interpretations of generic concepts. Narrative Strength – Effective and inventive storytelling. Technical Excellence – Excellent image quality for both live action and computer generated content. Live Action – Lighting, exposure and camera work that are excellent, and well-suited to the concept being portrayed. Use of specialty and technically difficult production methods will be a factor. Animations and Composites – Technically advanced use of available tools, imaginative and beautifully integrated imagery. By its very nature, the selection process involved in curating a new collection is subjective, but we are confident that we have an eye for the most unique and compelling files in the iStockvideo collection. Having said that, we are also looking forward to having the Vetta Video vision expanded and challenged by the new ideas and perspectives that contributors continually present. One final note is that we intend to populate the collection slowly and carefully, with quality as the ongoing guiding principle - where there may be many to choose from, we will select just a few of the best. Once Vetta Video launches, contributors will have the opportunity to nominate a selection of their own files for the collection. We’ve also established a new email address vetta.video@ that will allow contributors to send their questions about Vetta selections directly to the Vetta Video Inspection Team. We look forward to productive dialogue as we work together to make Vetta Video the most successful and inspiring collection possible. I hope the above is always used as the key criterion though. To my mind, the most important thing that Vetta can unlock, is to enable more complicated (read: expensive/time consuming) clips to be produced that wouldn't be useful to that many people, but would be highly valued by those that did. |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Posted Wed Apr 27, 2011 1:26PM | Thank you so much for this post, videocollections! Since Vetta for Video was announced I have been wondering exactly what makes a Vetta video, and no-one has provided that info until now. |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Posted Wed Apr 27, 2011 1:33PM | Posted By VideoCollections: Once Vetta Video launches, contributors will have the opportunity to nominate a selection of their own files for the collection. I thought we were meant to opt in our entire portfolio and you guys choose the Vetta clips? |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Posted Wed Apr 27, 2011 1:54PM | The idea is that once you are opted in, we can choose files that we believe will be good for the collection. But of course you know your portfolio the best, so once the feature is enabled, you will be able to nominate files that you think will be good for the collection. As a broad generalized guess, I'm going to predict that most of the files identified by you and by our team will be the same files. Also, once live, when you are uploading new content to the site, you will be able to specify if you want the work to be considered for Vetta. Of course, inspectors who are working in the normal queue will also be able to nominate files to the Vetta queue. Meanwhile, as new portfolios are opted in, we are looking through them. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Posted Wed May 4, 2011 11:57AM | So when will Vetta Video begin? -m |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Posted Fri May 6, 2011 11:12AM | / /It has already begun. Quietly at first, but as it ramps up and files begin to appear with the new Vetta designation, we will be directing increased public attention to it. For now, you will only notice the options to nominate files. Within the next few days, files will begin to show up in search results. We have prepared some preliminary notes for those exclusives who have opted in. It can be found in the Vetta Collection forum. Edited to add that it can also be found right here. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Posted Fri May 6, 2011 11:22AM | Good stuff, One questions is I don't want to select the same files an inspector would for vetta. How and when do I know if any of my old files have been tagged for Vetta? If I choose a file an inspector would I just wasted that vote. |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Posted Fri May 6, 2011 1:26PM | Thanks Jim for heads up, but the link does not lead anywhere. Also i cannot find vetta collection thread anywhere. BTW, when vetta collection will be announced officially? |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Posted Fri May 6, 2011 1:57PM | taavet, it looks like you have discovered a bug! It seems that exclusive videographers cannot see the Exclusive Forum. I will report it, meanwhile, I will post the Vetta Video FAQ in the video forum. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Posted Tue May 24, 2011 9:19AM | I want to opt-in on vetta but the option is not there when I follow the instructions in the email. When I go to exclusive program it says i have to wait 72 days before I can re-apply as exclusive. I initially applied when the option to go exclusive on the page, but the first video was in inspection queue so I got an email saying I had to wait until the first video was online (Edited on 2011-05-24 09:24:27 by Fiktiv) |
