This Sept/Oct timeframe will be a busy time for iStockers as the community comes together for a number of different -lypse events in various places across the globe.

Further to the Milan announcement and some discussion, we felt it'd be pretty cool to do a minilypse in the USA - open to North American contributors.

(Snipped from the Milan thread)

*****USA MINILYPSE…*****

With all these -lypse events and with the global-yet-local focus limiting some folks, I can't help but wonder if there's enough interest for a super–mini for North American contributors? Something like a strongly-supported-by-iStock for North Americans only in mid Septemberish? If there's enough interest and willing participants then we'll look at helping get another mini rolling and make it a nice 5th event – it'd make a nice 5th party 'candle' for that birthday cake too.

So let's talk about the possibility of a Utah Minilypse with our SLC superstars helping out on the planning

Utahlypse2011
UTAHLYPSE 2011

Recap Video
Model Headshots
Official Lightbox

WHO:  North American based iStock contributors

WHEN:  Thursday September 8 - Sunday September 11

WHERE:  Salt Lake City, with locations in nearby cities

WHAT:  The Utahlypse will feature a packed schedule of four location based stock photo concepts, two social events and an evening Lightroom/Photoshop/Inspection session taught by Rob Sylvan aka sylvanworks (open to social attendees too).  We don't want to give away the concepts ahead of time, but suffice to say there will be the opportunity for everyone to come away with some great, sellable stock images utilizing unique concepts, locations and models.

The cost of the four day event is $200 per photographer (thanks to some super sponsorship support!) and free to social attendees. Photographer attendance is limited to 20 participants, and a "Yellow Bucket" drawing will be utilized to select those attending.

To be entered in the drawing, send an email to utahlypse@leggnet.com before July 24 requesting to be included (please not a sitemail). Include your iStock member name in the email. The names will be compiled and the participants announced soon after.

Attendees can be Exclusive or Non-Exclusive, but all images created can only be sold through iStock. There is no "mandatory partner program" requirement.

So get your names in the drawing and let's make this a truly SUPER minilypse!

AUGUST 16

Here's a huge sponsor update

We have finalized the details and I can now "officially" announce that we have a lighting equipment sponsor for the Utahlypse.

profoto

Profoto will be providing lighting kits for each group at each location. These is professional grade lighting that will be up to the task of whatever we ask of it to do. Additionally, Profoto along with our friends at Pictureline are offering a special deal to any Utahlypse attendees (photographer or social) that are interested in purchasing equipment in the near future. We are talking a SUBSTANTIAL discount

This is very exciting in that the Utahlypse participants will have professional grade equipment at each location and won't have to worry about what and where the lights are. We will also be providing a 'lighting tech' with each group to assist the photographers in setting up and adjusting the lights to meet their individual needs.

If you aren't familiar with Profoto or Pictureline, take a moment and look around their websites.

Pictureline

Thanks Profoto!!

AUGUST 8

One of the 20 winners has a work conflict and won't be able to attend.

What this means is that we will be going back to the bucket to select a replacement. I will wait until this coming weekend to do it just in case we have any others not be able to attend (so far, ~90% have paid). As for the secondary draw, we are sticking to our original deadline and will not be allowing anyone who didn't make the first draw to enter.

If you were in the first draw and didn't get selected, but now don't want to be considered - please let me know via email at utahlypse@leggnet.com.

Good luck

AUGUST 1

More information:

SOCIAL OUTING

My good friend and a fellow photographer Ann Torrence will be leading a photowalk type event open to all the social attendees on Saturday morning. It will be in downtown Salt Lake City and will take in areas such as the Utah State Capital grounds and Temple Square. Ann is a wealth of information on this area and loves to share her knowledge. Check out one of Ann's recent ambitious projects: U.S. Highway 89

Social tickets are free to iStock members and their family, but we will be requesting them to register (soon). This way we can have an idea of how many to expect and plan accordingly.

HOTEL

I am meeting this week to finalize the hotel details. Our "home base" hotel will be in Sandy City, which is about 1/2 hour south of Salt Lake City. This is very close to most locations and offers a nice variety of restaurants and shopping. In addition to our planned event hotel, there are many other lodging choices very close by. Sandy also has a lightrail station with easy access to downtown Salt Lake City.

TRANSPORTATION

At this point we are not guaranteeing that we can provide transportation to/from locations. However, I have already made plans for one 11 passenger van to be at the weekend event and am working on getting another. These can be used to help move people around, but I would encourage those without cars to make friends with those that have cars

JULY 27

The information email has been sent to all the photographers

______________

JULY 26

We have our 20 winners! I will hold off on posting their names here (for now), so you all get a chance to watch the drawing video. Here is the link: UTAHLYPSE WINNER'S VIDEO

Emails will be going out tomorrow to the winners with all the details. They will have a few days to respond and confirm their attendance. If any decide not to attend, we will get together a small group and draw the replacement(s) (sans video).

Again, congratulations to all the winners. For those that didn't get their ball pulled, consider coming on a free "social ticket". We're going to have a lot of fun!

______________

JULY 25

We have received all the entries (50+) and will be videoing the Yellow Bucket Draw tonight. I expect a YouTube link will be posted late, late tonight

Good luck!

_______________

JULY 22

REMINDER: DRAWING DEADLINE TO ENTER IS SUNDAY JULY 24

I have personally replied to all the entries received. If you have not received a reply, please let me know ASAP.

_______________

JULY 19

The entries are continuing to pour in. We are extremely flattered to see how many people want to visit our "neck of the woods"

The drawing will take place on Monday July 25. I have procured a "Yellow Bucket" from a local supplier and member Nicolesy has offered to take on videographer duties to document the draw. The results will be announced via online posting of the video (later on Monday).

_______________

JULY 15

The emails are flowing in - looking good!

For those wanting "in the bucket", be sure to send your email to utahlypse@leggnet.com. Posting in this thread is nice, but we really need the email info

If you send an email and for some reason don't receive a reply, let me know. We don't want to miss anyone!

_______________

JULY 13

We are working on the calendar and will announce the dates for the event this coming weekend.

_______________

JULY 12

Here's the plan. I will be convening with my Utah-cohorts Todd (redhumv) & AJ (richvintage) a set the plan in motion. Since we've got some *OUTSTANDING* support from HQ for this event, it's gonna rock! We'll take a look at the calendar and see what dates work on this end - and take into consideration requests. We know the dates we select won't work for everyone, but we will do our best.

Stay tuned...

love the idea of a super mini-lypse in North America but will already be in Utah for the Betta-lypse at the end of July.  How about something in Canada?  It's not too cold up here in September

If it is early enough (read: warm and dry enough) I would seriously consider riding in from Chicago.  1400 miles is a practical 2-day trip on two wheels, or 1-day trip on four wheels.

I might come to just hang out with Johnson. Oh, and to wreck Rich's studio.

23rd or 9th would work for me, likely, or October 7th...

eta: only if there is no PP requirement.

Overland travel, from the East, becomes a dubious proposition late in the season--as the crossing of the Rocky Mountains, through the whole of Wyoming, is entailed. I-80 is, otherwise, a "straight shot." Just saying!
