Okay... I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before or not. I did do a forum search and I couldn't see anything related to it. So I'm jumping out here to share, so don't beat me with the redundant stick if it's already been said.
Now, I'm also not sure if this is the same on a MAC or in IE, so I apologize for that, maybe some kind folks using those can chime in and let us know if this works for you too.
Since the forum rebuild/remodel/make-over thingy, when you hit the "Enter" key you end up with a double space return.
By sheer accident, I was fat fingering the keys and found that by hitting "Shift" and "Enter" at the same time in Firefox you get a single space instead of a double space.
So if that who double space thing is bugging you and you have been hating the backspace dance you had to do to get a single space return, now you know.

Posted Fri May 5, 2006 8:38PM | Shift/Enter does the same in Windows IE. |
Posted Fri May 5, 2006 8:40PM | Kelly, are you using the WYSIWYG? If so, I was having the same problem. Now I unchecked it and am just doing it the old fashioned way with UBB and no problems
I am a bit set in my ways, LOL.

I got very frustrated with WYSIWYG and went back to UBB because it kept sticking words together like this: "Hihows it going" "Justfine andyou?" I didn't notice the spacing problem but if the ever fix WYSIWYG I would try it again.

Posted Fri May 5, 2006 9:05PM | Kcline, if you hit "enter", then it basically
means you start a new paragraph. Don't try to do a linebreak by hitting
"enter". Just continue writing your full paragraph. The linebreaks are
automatically taken care of. I also advise against using Shift-Enter as
this makes more sense for enumerations, etc.If someone chose to switch
to a larger font size in a browser, your posts with the shift-enters
would look really ugly. |

...well, now my previous post looks really ugly because I used the
WYSIWYG editor in Firefox on a Mac with OSX and I did NOT use the enter
key at all. Somehow the linebreaks appear too early. I can't use the
"justify" option in this editor either. Go figure...

Yep, I'm using the WYSIWYG editor. Trying to keep up with all this new fangled technology and break out of my fuddy-duddy crust. hee hee
I'm aware that it starts a new paragraph, hence the double space. What got annoying for me was when I was trying to make a list of things, an example, or when I had only a couple sentences to say that didn't need to be in the same paragraph or need a whole new paragraph of their own.
Like when trying to do this sort of thing:
Example of an example
or the rare occassion when I am making out my grocery list for all of iStock to see like so:
Groceries-
Beer
Beer
Steak
Beer
Baby oil
Beer
Celery stick
Tequila
Plastic Wrap
It would look a little dorky if everything on the list had a double space between it.
Know what I mean

Brave SOLE-I hate it when people beat others with that nasty stick. |

Kcline: oh, ok, so you got it under control. Didn't mean to be a smartass...

Baby oil on a celery stick for dinner??? I guess the plastic wrap is
needed for what comes back out of you after eating and drinking all
that beer

Posted Fri May 5, 2006 10:48PM | i was trying to figure out the double space thingy a while back as well. It kept on messing up my blog... i think i ended up typing in notepad then copy-paste into the window. Now I've changed my setting to the good old trusty ubb rather than wysiwyg. Thanks for the thread though kelly, didnt know about the shift+enter, i just might be tempted to switch back over to wysiwyg |
