Digital Releases
We are happy to announce that effective immediately iStock will accept model and property releases generated electronically by approved applications. This means you will be able to capture the necessary release information on an iPhone or Android app and shoot it directly to us with your upload. All digital, no paper.

There are several different digital release applications out there. We will accept Easy Release and VM Release. We strongly advise that our contributors use Easy Release. This app is available on iPhone/iPad and Android and works in all of our supported language. It contains all the information we require so you don't need to add anything.

We still require the same information about the model, as well as signatures and a witness. The difference is that you can now capture this information on a digital application.

We have prepared a FAQ page on digital releases including reference images which you can view here.

IP Update: Little Tree® Air Fresheners
Getty Images and iStockphoto will no longer accept commercial creative imagery containing the Little Tree® air freshener. This includes photographs, illustration, and video, where the Little Tree is the main focus, or is included as an element in a larger composition. These products can appear in editorial use only content.

We have prepared a FAQ page with more details here.

Dollar Bin Update - The Value Collection
We plan to add more content into the Dollar Bin. As with the original migration of Dollar Bin files (for those of you who remember that far back) we will identify files that haven't been downloaded in a long time and will add those to the collection.

We also plan to do more promotion-wise for the Dollar Bin. Currently these files are difficult to find and we don't do much to advertise them. We plan to re-brand the collection and do more to promote it to customers interested in the value side of the iStock library.

Check your Agency Opt-in
Our collections editors can only add files to the Agency collection from contributors who are opted-in under their preferences. Lately we've run into some cases where contributors were opted-out without their knowledge. We recommend that Exclusive contributors double check the status of their various collections opt-ins. These can be found under My Account > Preferences > My Uploads.

The Value Collection - July 17 Update

We put in place some of the first steps to the Dollar Bin update we announced last week.

First thing, we have a new name: The Value Collection.

Unlike the old Dollar Bin, the Value Collection will appear in search results - with a caveat. We will only display these results to certain users depending on what we know about them. (Yes, that is vague. No, we won't be more specific.)

The links on the front page and Photo landing page to the Value Colleciton will be available to all users. Once on that Value Collection page, the results will be fully sortable and take advantage of all the left-hand facets.

As of July 17, the process to add new files has not happened yet. So we have the new functionality but not the new content yet.

July 25 Update
The technical side of the Value Collection migration is currently being deployed. This means that files will start moving into the new collection over the next few days.

Dollar Bin Value Collection FAQ

We've gathered together some of the questions that came up in the thread about the coming Dollar Bin refresh. Here are some answers:

Q: Could it happen to E+ files too? (Could E+ files be moved into the dollar bin?)

A: No, for now we are only moving files from the Main and Exclusive collections. E+ continues to do well and we want to see that collection grow.

Q: What will the dollar bin be renamed?

A: Stay tuned. New name coming soon. The new and improved Dollar Bin is called the Value Collection.

Q: This is great news! will we also have the option to add files to the dollar bin ourselves? Maybe give us a small quota as a portfolio percentage, like E+, so we can move old or weak files from a series?

A: For the time being we are keeping the dollar bin expansion to a older images that haven't been downloaded in a long time. This lets us beef up the collection with images that could use a new lease on life but keeps the process simple and lean.

Q: Will we be notified if our picture has been moved to the Dollar Bin?

A: We will post a general announcement when the migration happens but we will not be sending out individual notifications to contributors, no.

Q: So files that are older than two years and have no downloads will be moved to (the) Dollar Bin automatically?

A: Our starting point for this migration will be quite a bit older than two years. For the time being we are not touching any new or relatively new files.

Q: After the move of some files to the DB, will our available nominations for E+ be reduced as well?

A: No.

Q: Will dollar bin files eventually be retired?

A: We are considering this a new starting point for the dollar bin, and as such will monitor the collection performance. At this point though there are no plans to retire images from the dollar bin.

In easy release form (the one you encourage to be used) there is no space for model phone number, model email address and shoot description. Does this means that these pieces of information are no longer needed?

yes, there is. Look again.

Is there any other implications to consider before checking the Agency Opt-in If I already have my files in the vetta collection?  Is it the same partner sites and distribution?

Great news about the MR.

There is an option to designate a shoot "end date". Does this mean we now have more flexibility for having one release cover several days of shooting?

If you opted in to the PP when it started, any of your files in the Dollar Bin should have been transferred to the PP already.

If you opted in later I'm not sure, but at the very least they should be in your list of files under the Partner Program and can be marked for transfer now.  Of course, it may be some months before they actually get moved, but that's another issue.

It really would be nice if we could have a little control over what goes in there.

I think a dollar bin collection will be really successful and might also encourage customers to check out the individual artist for what they have "on sale".

It also helps clean up the portfolio and keeps the collection looking fresh.

Thank you for the good news!
