My thanks to the Inspection Team, for an initial 5 rating, and to several other who rated recent photos. It seemed that rating had fallen off and I have not even looked for any, so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw them today.

Since new uploads were taken off the front page ratings, comments, and public lightbox adds have almost stopped completely. I wish new uploads were more visable again. I think that added to the spirit of community of this place.

I agree, I think new uploads on the front page were important.

I disagree entirely. I think the ratings system in particular detracted from the spirit of community particularly when groups of contributors were banding together to skew the ratings system.

Ratings... not so important, but nice to get.

New uploads more visible... very, very important. New, current imagery is the life blood to attract new and current customers imho.

@ davidf - but it was the community that discovered th scams and they got shut down pretty wuickly. But it is nice to have an image recoognized. It would be nice if there could be a link that would allow people co connect directly to the contributor's Message Box by checking a "Like" box. However, the "Community" has changeed radically in the last 3 years and I'm not sure there are the connections there were before when the forums were fun and allowed dissent that often deteriorated into hilarity. I miss those.

Lol, Ted.

My ratings dropped off almost entirely when I stopped rating others (I still do but rarely). The main reason I stopped rating images the way I used to is two-fold: 1) My feeling for iStock and how it used to be changed, and; 2) iS made finding the new images difficult, too much so for my liking.

I liked getting nice ratings and comments, but I don't expect them when I don't give them. I figure that's just how it is. Glad to hear you're getting some i5s Jan

Since ratings are now (I think) no part of any kind of version of BM, that has pulled the teeth of the 'ratings gangs'.

It's pleasant to receive an occasional rating (and it still happens for me, occasionally). I sometimes make the effort to thank the person rating, generating a bit of internal conversation. So the ratings system still has some use.

I think the rating system has no use.   It has been discussed before that many of us would like it to be scrapped.

Personally, I do like to look at the latest pictures when I can find some time and I still rate the ones I like. I almost never even look at the photographer's name.

It's just about acknowledging other people's skill and craftmanship. It's not like everything has to be about money and being the most successful guy ever.

I guess they like it when it happens just as I do. And this is enough.

I used to enjoy going through the new uploads and rating, it was also nice to get ratings, what I didn't like was the rating system, it should have been as simple as I like this file and no more.

You can still look at new uploads and rate them-contributor lounge-newest uploads. That doesn't guarantee that anyone will rate yours though. I'm sure you all must know that!

I think another sign that the community has changed with respect to ratings/comments is in the Pimp Thread of the Week. I remember getting ratings/comments routinely after pimping images; and I'd take the time to rate/comment upon other contributors' images that caught my eye in the thread.

Now it's like cold water has been splashed on the whole ratings thing. I can't remember the last time a pimped image of mine was rated. For that matter, I remember the last time I rated someone elses pimped image.

I find the new images easily...in fact some have asked me how do I rate their image when it hasn't even appeared in the queue. I just click on "Contributor Lounge" below and voila.I like seeing new images  that I rate because I genuinely love them. I have not done so in a while since I am on holidays...but I see something that moves me...I rate it and sometimes comment as well.

That's odd -- I just tried that and got this message:
