Just wondering if anyone is seeing any downloads for vertical videos. Im currently creating a video for horizonatal 16x9 as usual but i thought would work well for vertical as well. So was wondering if its worth submitting 2 versions, horizontal and vertical.

Which leads me to my next question, are there any search options where buyers can filter vertical video to make it easier to search and also is there a popular lightbox to be included in?

Thanks.

just got one accepted .. and yesterday submitted another one.

I add tag words like tablet, smartphone (and they even have all the models to list) along the obvious "vertical" "vertical video" and "portrait"

that's what I would click as a buyer

I didn't really get vertical video a while ago but with a tiny bit more understanding I thought I'd give it a try!

I got my first 4 accepted last night.

Im not really expecting these to sell like hotcakes! Maybe they wont sell at all, it's more of a learning curve for me

Adding "tablet" or "smartphone" or any of the actual smartphone/table models to your keywords is not appropriate since none of those are actually in your video.

This probably isn't the greatest example of why to use vertical video. The top half your screen is just black, so not there's actually not much difference in taking a horizontal video and turning it sideways.

Also, you don't have the most importance keyword "vertically oriented video"

Some nice videos, but about half your keywords are spam. Natural Gas, Petroleum, Solar Power, Changing Form Morphing, Billboard, Marketing, Commercial Sign...several more are probably not appropriate for a video of a wind turbine.

Vertical videos sell occasionally, so if you can make one without a lot of effort, it doesn't hurt. But probably not something that's going to sell a ton.

The keyword for vertical videos is "vertically oriented video".

I tested that key phrase search - 1161 results, of which 161 actually are video. That's a pretty poor start, regarding the accuracy of that key phrase.

Then, a confusing thing is that the thumbnails are presented as horizontal. It looks as if they play in horizontal format, too. That doesn't seem ideal?

Ignoring the fact that some of these 161 videos are clearly horizontal - only two in vertical format have more than 10 downloads, and it is more than 3 years since those two were uploaded (both seem excellent).

As I mentioned elsewhere, it might be worth thinking about subjects for square format. That might solve the issue of the vertical format playing back in horizontal format; and provide a product that can be useful in many niche areas.

Thanks forrest for the post.

Just a quick question as im still learning the istock way of things : Is it spam even if the keyword is related to the topic but not the picture?

For example, someone might be looking for electricity alternative to solar panals and will come accross wind turbines?

same for natural gas / Petrol etc, etc

Also whats wrong with billboard if thats where they're going to end up?

To me these are all related!? Maybe not to the picture but the subject matter!

(sorry if this is a dumb question as Im still learning istock techniques)

Thinking about this issue i think in order for vertical video to be successful, or at least more successful than it is now, it would require effort from both istock and contributors. I think istock could make available special categories for vertical video in the upload/keywording process and add a search filter underneath resolution and aspect ratio. And of course market it in all channels. Istock could also make a vertical video manual with tips on market usage, examples of good vertical videos etc.

I don't know, what does the video inspection team think? Woudl be nice for some feedback.

Keyword should be things or ideas that are actually in the video or photo.

If you were going to add keyword for how videos are going to be used than every video on iStock should have the keywords "TV, Web and computer" because every video sold here is going to be used on a TV, Website or a computer. So it doesn't really make sense to add those to every video. And it would make actually finding a video of a TV impossible. So in the same way adding "Billboard, Marketing, Commercial Sign" to your videos just because they might be used on those items doesn't make sense.

Some of your other keywords for related things like "solar power" might be wobblers. I can see it being useful and I have sometime done it myself, but I think the iStock policy if you can't see it in the photo or video then it shouldn't be a keyword.
