![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Posted Fri Sep 14, 2012 5:36PM | If you're using either my toolbar-to-the-top script or my colour-scheme-to-blue script, you might like to upgrade to this new version as I've made a few tweaks recently. I use this on Chrome - which I recomment - that's the only place I've tested it. You can install it directly from the Chrome store here: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/istock-toolbar-updates/khcljmlmobmcahfkbhlcocelkbflfndn. I expect it to work on FireFox if you have the GreaseMonkey extension installed, or Safari if you have the GreaseKit extension installed. You can position the toolbar: - to the top of the screen, as the DeityOfYourChoice intended; - leave it at the bottom, where iStock like it for some reason; or - up a little from the bottom and squished over to the right so that it's less likely to be obscured by a browser's status line. Also you can change the colour scheme to one of several canned versions or, if you have better taste than me or if you just want to burn your eyes out, you can enter your own choice of custom colours as 3- or 6-digit hex colour codes. I've also replaced the sitemail, portfolio and shopping cart icons with slightly larger icons (because my eyes are getting older) that I can also change to match your colour scheme, but I've also reduced the amount of text in the toolbar so that you can use it with a narrower window if you so choose. In addition, because I'm dumb and sometimes don't notice when there's unread sitemail, the sitemail icon will pulse when there's mail waiting to be read. It also tries to play nicely with Anchev's excellent lightbox script, if you have that installed. "Tries" is the operative term. When the script is installed, a cog icon appears at the left of the toolbar. Clicking on that opens a settings window where you can change the toolbar position and the colour scheme: ![]() Enter your own values into the Foreground: and Background: boxes and click the "Custom" button if you're wise and don't like my pre-packaged colours: ![]() If you use the Chrome browser you can install the script directly from the Chrome store. Alternatively, the script is available from http://www.theasis.co.uk/iStock/f5_toolbar_to_top.user.js The older script which doesn't do anything fancy, just moves the toolbar to the top, is still available from http://www.theasis.co.uk/iStock/f5_toolbar_to_top_old.user.js If you don't know what GreaseMonkey is, you might want to read Sean's thread over here. Enjoy! (Edited on 2013-03-18 19:28:45 by theasis) |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Posted Mon Oct 8, 2012 6:30AM | Thanks for the details. Those el/toolbar is null errors are actually harmless, but I'll make sure they're not there in future releases. I've installed FF 15.0.1 and I see the cog, but not in the same place. On chrome I have: settings-cog user-icon my-account sitemail... On FF I have: user-icon my-account settings-cog sitemail... So it's worth asking if the cog is there but just not where I said it would be. (But I suspect you would've noticed). Also, what other scripts are you using? My first thought was that Sean's toolbar-modifying script to tell you your latest sale might be preventing my script from working for you, but I just tried installing that and they seem to co-exist quite happily. Do you have any others which modify the iStock toolbar? |
![]() ![]() ![]() Posted Mon Oct 8, 2012 6:45AM | No, I don't see the cog anywhere - unless perhaps it's very well hidden! I do have other scripts running, including Sean's, the forum quicklinks and the lightbox tool - but I tried disabling all of them and it made no difference, or at least, none that I noticed. |

It may be a very small cog in a very large machine. Oh - here's a thought! Is there a gap at the very left of the toolbar, or between "My Account" and the sitemail icon, where the cog might fit if it existed? And if so, can you click around in that gap and see if the settings box appears? Failing that, I'll have a hard think when I get home later. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Posted Mon Oct 8, 2012 6:53AM | Just tried it on Chrome, works fine there... I notice that, by default, it move the toolbar to the top, on Chrome. On Firefox, it's still at the bottom, though it does have the extra icons. That would suggest the script is halting, surely? |
![]() ![]() ![]() Posted Mon Oct 8, 2012 6:57AM | Sorry, our posts crossed... no, I can't find any unexpected gaps, nor can I get it to appear by clicking around the area you'd expect it to be. No matter, I like the toolbar fine at the bottom anyway! |

That would suggest the script is halting, surely? Yep - sounds that way. Very odd that it worked for me on FF, but who knows what might be different between us. Maybe my feeble claim of "those errors are harmless" is only true under certain conditions. I've put a "fixed" version up at the same location (v1.7) but won't be able to actually test that it's fixed on FF until later. Give it a spin if you feel so inclined. Feel free to not care |
![]() ![]() ![]() Posted Mon Oct 8, 2012 7:04AM | OK, another oddity - in FireFox, if I click on the "My Account" in the toolbar, all I get is a greyed out menu - the one I would expect if I clicked on the up arrow next to it, although it doesn't work. On Chrome, I get nothing if I click on "My Account" or the arrow - not even the menu. |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Posted Mon Oct 15, 2012 5:26AM | I've not had much chance to look at the reported problems. But I've also had a couple of requests to make the older simpler version (which simply moves the toolbar to the top of the page) available again. The older script which doesn't do anything fancy, just moves the toolbar to the top, is available at http://www.theasis.co.uk/iStock/f5_toolbar_to_top_old.user.js If you're switching back to the older version, you probably want to uninstall the current version first...your browser might not downgrade an active GM script for you. |
