![]() Posted Sun Sep 30, 2012 12:28PM | Greetings, My son, David, just published his second children chapter book. He published his first chapter book in 2011 when he was 7 years old. His second book contains 16 chapters and 6,500 words. He put a lot of hard work into it. He also created all the illustrations using Adobe Photoshop Elements when I was not using it to edit my photos. Today, it has a free promotion on Amazon. You can read it for free on Kindle, iPad, iPhone and your personal computer. The URL is attached below if you are interested. It will really be encouraging for David if you can write your review on Amazon for his book after reading it. Danny and the Trip to Outer Space (David’s 2nd book published August 2012, $0.00 for Kindle version today only Sept 30, 2012, regular price is $5.99) Paperback is also available. Summary of the story: The story starts when Danny accidentally spills soda on one of his birthday gifts, a RC plane, and it enlarges enough so it could fit Danny’s whole family inside it. Unfortunately, Danny’s house is destroyed when the machine starts up and the family decides to travel to Massachusetts (from England). On the way, they run into Grandpa Garth’s plane and all of Danny’s relatives join Danny’s family. Two hours later, after a nap, Danny finds out that the spacecraft has flown through the atmosphere and they have entered outer space. They land on the Moon and have a fun time there. When they come back to their spacecraft, 100 Martian Spacebattlers attack the spacecraft. The only way Danny and his passengers could survive the attack was to fire their own cannons. They eventually win the battle and head on farther from Earth and more into outer space. Later, they go through a wormhole and meet a few oddities there, like another Earth with a hotel and a strange planet where most of it is made out of food. And you must read on to see how Danny’s experience comes together while traveling through the dangers and mystifications of outer space. Danny and the Portal of the World (David’s 1st book August 2011, $2.99 Kindle version and it will be free next weekend Oct. 6 &7, 2012) Paperback is also available. Summary of the story: This is the story of Danny Tom Ed, a portal and a lot of relatives. They come together when Danny slips and falls into a portal and meets his relatives. This story also chronicles about a mystery rock later to be found a short cut for Danny to return home. He also finds that this portal also interferes with time and soon find himself standing in a sun-lit bedroom only to find his mother saying, “Danny you almost late for school,” and suddenly he realizes that the time had moved along. And you must read on to find how Danny, the portal and his relatives come together into their own lives. We haven’t tried finding him a traditional publisher yet and wonder if we did whether it would be successful. We use CreateSpace of Amazon right now and try to share his work to inspire children to read and write more often. His stories are great for children 7 to 11 (grades 2 to 6). They are action packed with adventure while maintaining humor. David's author blog Books"R"Fun Please spread the word if you like. Thank you and have a great week! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Posted Tue Oct 16, 2012 1:59AM | Fantastic start to a writing career, at such a young age! Your post reminded me that I have written a book - aged 8 plus a few tens of years - so I thought it would be fun to see if there are any remains on the Internet. The Feathers Fly! : is Archaeopteryx a fake? The exhibition on which the book is based. In the review, I am the anonymous person described as 'bending over backwards'. Good luck to David with his budding career. It's doubly satisfying to write something and get the credit on the cover! (Edited on 2012-10-16 02:07:22 by Whiteway) |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Posted Tue Oct 16, 2012 5:20AM | I haven't finished it yet but I'm writing a book about my mother, Lori Konkle, who was a mouth brush painter. She had severe Multiple Sclerosis and was unable to use her hands. She painted over 500 beautiful watercolors before she passed away in 2007. She was very religious and I talk a lot about her faith as it relates to her art in the book. |

You've probably even heard of some of thier works - Death of a Salesman and Angela's Ashes, for example. However, one of my favorites is by a teaching collegue who retired a few years ago. The Art of Teaching Art to Children is truly the best book on the subject - believe me, I read them all, I think! |

Really pleased you liked the precis, apparently he was bored last week so he wrote a book of poems based on chess pieces in less than 48 hrs and published on line. Much of it was at 3 am whilst in the launderette! It is a different world of publishing these days. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Posted Sun Oct 28, 2012 9:14PM | Kudos to all the writers! IS does have a fair contingent of writers who often participate in the NaNoWriMo -- write a novel in a month that takes place in November each year NaNoWriMo see the link for more information as it starts in a few days in case you want to participate. I've written a few novels but never quite finished anything as close as a rough draft in a month. My speediest first draft was 130,000 words in 14 weeks. but that was back in the "dark ages". Haven't written anything in about 15 years but I'm still very much involved with the publishing industry -- as a book designer (17 years for cover art and textblock). So keep writing those books guys and gals and keep putting those wonderful photos and illos on iStock cause I come here often looking for stuff to make my covers beautiful. (Sometimes I get as many as 4 or 5 different photos/illos to make just one cover!) |

![]() Posted Sun Dec 30, 2012 2:52PM | I have one published novel. It was released in 2006 and is called The Beauty of the World. I write for magazines, but my favourite writing is still short stories and novel writing. photography and writing come from a similar place creatively. working at both has helped me to improve on all fronts...the cover of my book is so special to me. I had approached an artist whose work I had reviewed. she offered to read my novel, and she painted her vision of my main character for the cover. (Edited on 2012-12-30 14:55:45 by stacey_newman) |
