/LOL! The "giving up time" has passed long ago The ones that are still here... well, I don't know the right answer to this... I'm here for the money that I cannot be without and yet I cannot "Test" other agencies for a few months just to find out that I'm working five times more for the same amount of money I'm earning here (and that amount is getting smaller each month...) or less. Yet I'm tempted every month to give up exclusivity, both, video and audio... But just cannot gamble! And if I would told the amount that I'm earning here all of you guys would drop dead laughing your eyes out... heck, I would too! But that small amount of money is so important in my life and it cover some of the most vital monetary paths that I just cannot be without (read: it pays my rent, my wifes and mine car, one car that is, my elder sons kinder garden and weekly living - read food - from Wednesday to Wednesday, payoneer payout cutoff...)

Time to give up exclusivity was long time ago... myself - digitally imprisoned

I just made that decision and cancelled my exclusivity.  Fortunately, it's not my bread and butter, but a way for me to make extra money.  I also know that they give you a certain amount of time to change your mind back and become exclusive again.  We shall see what the following months hold!

In my small opinion this is still the best place to sale video on the net!

I think you can start uploading on other sites, but keep files UNpublished... When all uploaded, keyworded, etc. you will drop of exclusivity and publish your portfolio on other sites... I think this is not a violation of any rules... Well, I think so...

Is the grass really greener? Do they have Vetta? What do you earn per download? I have made more here in one day than many on other sites do in a month. Not bragging, just the facts. Now it may be better for you to drop exclusivity just consider everything before you do.

If you go non-exclusive, it will take a lot of effort, and time, but it wil be worth it- especially if you have good content. One of the things that I have found, is that the published rates / splits on the other sites are just a starting point. Many treat you a lot more fairly, and pay you more then the arrangement here at iStock. (Which is unfortunate, as I REALLY like the people like Jim, here at the video side of iStock - it is the bigger company as a whole, that drives a lot of the descisions ...)

I'm making more money now then I ever did by being exclusive here. And even when I run the numbers on what I would be making by being exclusive here, I'm still making more. (Depending on the month, I'm making 2 - 4 times as much money) But don't think it will come without some pain, and commitment on your part. This is not a quick, easy fix. Your sales will drop for a while here on iStock, and it will take time to recoup that lost income. And you will be processing / uploading files multiple times, so that does add extra work on you part.

If you don't want to put in the effort- and IT IS A LOT OF EFFORT- and you are not willing to wade through 6 - 12 months of dropped sales revenue, then going non-exclusive is not for you ...

Yes, it's VERY HARD to be non-exclusive.  So, I suggest every producer who is exclusive to iStock STAY that way and STAY here.

I've chucked in my badge . . . it has taken me 6 months to decide fully to come out of being exclusive but sales have bombed .  . . . time to move on . . .

Do you think anyone from iStock will acknowledge? from my past treatment I guess not . . .

I think staying here is better. But, there must be something wrong with the statistics / balance information. It's almost end of the October (>a very good month for sales), and I have 300% $ drop compared to September 2012 (just the previous month)...

I know, I have a small portfolio, but this kind of 'sudden and huge' drop is not normal (hope there's a bug). Actually my downloads was quite stable until October 2012, but something happened in the beginning of this month. Anyway, I have started to upload again (>sure uploading to iStock), I hope it gets back to normal...

I think it is interesting that "synthetik" thinks that iStock is a small pond. Over here in England there has been a press campaign by a very well known stock library rival leading with the copy line "ISTUCK", I have not seen any response to that in any of the trade (Design) journals from iStock. . . . no marketing whatsoever!

As many of you may have gathered from my other posts that I have been unhappy that iStock has not broadened it's horizons into After Effects templates, no explanation, no opinion shown and I think one of the real reasons video sales have dropped.

Something else to keep in mind, is that there is a natural eb and flow of sales. Even a sharp decline in sales for one month, should not be an automatic reason for dropping exclusitivity. Just like a sharp increase in sales one month shouldn't be a reason to go exclusive at one site. (I've had both happen to me, and I'm remaining non-exclusive.) It is all about the long game in microstock. (At least it is for me anyway ...) Take a look at your numbers over the year, and compare them to previous years, and try and see trends based on that, and then make the call from those numbers ...

Just my $0.01 ...

It was kind of a joke, guys - punning on the name of one of our competitors... Well, I thought it was funny...

But BernardAllum got it right, istock is the small pond, having approx 500,000 videos. The big Pond has approx 1.3 million.

I think around 90% of video's here are exclusive so buyers do check here because they can't find our work anywhere else. Don't forget the Getty factor. I say if you are Gold or above it would be a huge risk to drop exclusivity. I feed my family from shooting video so at this point I am not willing to drop my income 70% to see if I could do better in the long run.

Huh? Gadzooks...That sounds awfully high?? How are you getting your numbers? Unless they really did "flush out" all the last remaining "non-exclusives" after the last "purge" (read: the ridiculous new payout scheme/highway robbery plan)...wow...I just didn't know I was in that much of a "minority" here...that would also really help to explain the drastic drop off in sales as it relates to where I sit in their "lopsided BM search" too....interesting...

Perhaps he means that 90% of the videos that buyers see are exclusive, unless they click through quite a few pages' worth of search results.
