Sorry to those looking for their deleted posts but this isn't the November sales discussion thread.

Please try and contain your natural desire to post your sales another few days.

Thanks.

Isn't this a sales discussion thread?  The "make a difference campaign" is based on iStock (and us) getting extra sales in November, unless I'm not understanding what this marketing campaign is about?

Why does iStock have to do everything in the most convoluted way possible? Maybe there isn't really a communication problem at all. Maybe the problem is that there is no possible way to explain the incomprehensible schemes coming out of the boardroom.

Hi Graham,

I think you've understood exactly what the campaign is about, creating extra sales, but that differs from the purpose of this announcement thread. If people want to discuss the campaign, that's great but it's not the place for everyone to post daily sales updates, whether good or bad.

I applaud the campaign it was just a mess as far as a clear purpose. Is it giving or getting more money we are really after?

Here at iStock we want to give in ways that make a difference. Many of you have credits that you have not used up for this year. We would love for you to get the imagery you need and at the same time a protion of the purchase will go to a charity the community chooses. We value you as customers and look forward to helping those in need. Thank-you for your participation

I think it's a little bit of both, you can give what you can afford or get more to give more.

28,409 downloads and counting..

So, in 5 days (over Thanksgiving and a long holiday weekend), there were 26,000 "extra" downloads? I certainly didn't see anything "extra".

Those were the invisible Xtra's Sean.  They happened so fast you can't see them

Yay! The charity i voted for made the cut. Not the $50k most understood it to be, on the other hand, more charities get the share of the pie. Everyone wins. Thanks, iStock!

And if the target isn't met? I hope istock wouldn't consider NOT donating to the charities anyway, even with the smaller amount. That would be really bad PR. You wouldn't do that, would you istock?

FYI,
"One day only
Save 20% on any iStock credit pack for the next 24 hours using promo code xxx. Then do a little happy dance — because each time you download an iStock file you’re bringing us one step closer to our giving goal."

Are we eating a portion of this discount as usual?

Impossible! "In case you’re wondering, this will have no impact on your royalties. You might even see a nice boost." From the OP. Thanks iStock for eating the 20% in the name of charity and making sure it's not taken out of our revenue.

Why did this mail not suprise me... Of course we pay for it now with getting 20% less from all sales made on cheaper credits.

I am beginning to think that the one who can "Make the [most] Difference" is you istock. Please see the well stated post from a concerned buyer that emulates the feelings of most contributors: http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=349485&page=1

Sometimes it's hard to see the forest through the trees. But it seems a more logical way to meet sales goals, than this charity campaign, would be to address basic functionality of the site so that current customers are physically able to license imagery. While the desire to help others may be a motivating factor to many, if it is physically difficult or near impossible to search, analyze and download, that motivation simply cannot translate into action here on this site.

Once the major issues are addressed, and commerce can flow again, it would then be kind to share the resulting wealth.

The numbers haven't updated in a while. Can we see how close it is to the goal please?

Thanks.

It's December 13 - did iS make it? The download count is @ 42,876. In the details page for the campaign, it says, "All you have to do is download 5 or more files before December 13." So does that mean the goal wasn't met? Or does the campaign run through the end of the day?

Thank you for helping us reach – or should we say, exceed – our goal! We asked you to help us give away $50,000 to some pretty worthy causes by downloading 5 or more files before December 13. You went above and beyond our collective goal of 50,000 extra downloads, so a huge round of applause to you! 66,222 Downloads Reached

I'm not sure whether I'm disappointed that expectations were so low that IS could get 66,222 "extra" downloads, yet my downloads have fallen off a cliff from last year, or that I wish the money would just have been donated so I didn't have something else that I don't really trust.
