Hi ,

I already asked a istock rep but the answer wasn't complete. I need to know if I can use the regular istock photos for my fashion /travel site and app which is in development. The photos are just of fashion models posing / runway shots and travel the usual landmarks etc..I am not re-selling any of the phots of course but the APP is not free and the photos are only for background use.

Also can I use an image on facebook without extended licence ?  And also why can't I use the editorial ones ? Sorry lots of queries first -timer to all this :)

Let's cut this apart:
1. can use the regular istock photos for my fashion /travel site
Yes, you can use iStock photos on your website.
2. can use the regular istock photos for my ... app which is in development.
If the use is incidental - background, icon, etc. , it should be fine. If it is a slideshow app of iStock images, then no. You would need an EL.
3. Also can I use an image on facebook without extended licence ?
More information, please. Technically you should be ok to do this, as you are not claiming rights to the works.
4. why can't I use the editorial ones
You can if you are using them in an editorial context. Are you?

Yes. Writing information articles about a subject would normally fall under editorial.
