In the rejection notice it says "If you require further explanation regarding this rejection, please forward this message and your questions to Contributor Relations: artists@istockphoto.com"

So I forward them the email and write "I require further explanation" but they say that I shouldn't write them asking for this, I should send a ticket to scout.

Should I expect artists@istockphoto.com to give me a further explanation like it says in the email or not?

No, I'd probably disregard that direction and head towards the Scout Team. I'll see about getting that removed from the rejection notification so not to confuse folks, especially new(or old) contributors who haven't ever had a rejection before. It happens to everyone, keep your chin up

I'd suggest contacting Scout. If you have any concerns that maybe your appeal isn't 100% bulletproof you can see what the folks in the Critique Forum have to say before you gear up to contact Scout.

Thanks.  The problem is I only have 3 scout slots and I have 30 rejections for copyright that I think are wrong.  Do I just have to wait a year to send all these to scout?

Well I guess you could start with 3 and inform them you have plenty more where they came from.

Good luck.

I'd go to the cretique forums first, the community there will give you a good explaination of what you want to know

The issue has to do with iStock policy rather than technical issues, I don't think the community can give those kind of answers definitively.  As far as I can tell the only option is to go through scout.

What you should learn from this is to first upload only one or two images from the series. See how it goes before dumping 30 more.

That doesn't always work. I've done the "upload a couple and see how it goes" thing several times. In one case the first ones were accepted, then the subequent ones were rejected and the first ones deactivated.

In another case some were accepted, some were rejected for copyright because it depended on what part and how much of the item (in this case a guitar) was shown. Scout had his guitar specialist give guidelines for future submissions.

Another time a design on a balloon was borderline, so scout accepted the rejected ones and I altered the design on further submissions.

My point is it is often a crap shoot. Scout the ones you want the most. If you get a positive response give the numbers of the rest. Good luck!

I did the trial first thing as well as looking and seeing recently accepted similar images from other contributors.  The problem is that there are not enough scout tickets (3 out of possibly 800 uploads a month is no where near enough) , the inspectors do not have clear instructions (in fact the rejection reason contains contradictory statements), and there is no contributor support to talk to and try to figure this out better.  This situation wastes my time and iStock's but I guess it's cheaper than offering any real contributor support.

You may want to reconsider creating a Critique Request thread. It's not purely peer-to-peer, there is some admin support in that forum. Not knowing the exact nature of the issue I can't make any promises on any results, but you may gain some clarity on the likelihood of Scout going your way and/or other advice on how to bring about a successful resolution to your issue.

You will need to post full size files and provide the full text of the rejection email(s).

Thanks everyone - I think the OP is now sufficiently aware of his options.
