To be honest it doesn't matter what is said here now. My sales are so damaged and the situation here is so dramatic that I simply can't afford to upload the 1000 photo's I have taken this year as the returns are so low now.

I don't really care about the whys and wherefores anymore as I now have a very real and urgent situation to deal with. My partner who is also exclusive here with a decent portfolio of 2000 images (including lots of Vettas) has earned $8 this week. Never thought I'd see it, but it is now very apparent we've both reached the end of the line here at iStock.

Whether the management choose to acknowledge it not or not the business model for exclusive contributors like myself and my partner is now broken. There is no more waiting to see what happens now, events have just moved too fast.

Another good contributor is throwing his crown - like so many in the past month and most probably many more will do in the next couple of wekks...

Soon the iStock/Getty management has reached their target - get rid of the expensive exclusives and bring the average comission to the 20 % which are standard in the Getty group.

It is so sad - but after reading the statements in thes November Sales Threads is more than logic. At the end of the day the management can be happy, they have been succesful, most of the Exclusives will have left by own will ...

I don't even think it's that clever or calculated, they've just lost control of the library. Rushing through the Agency content which consequently screwed up the Best Match which in turn was rushed with a fix on top of the never ending bug fixes has just created a negative spiral of management fire fighting. The place has simply become too big and complicated to manage effectively.

Oh my God

For years I thought that I had a valuable golden crown. Now I know it's a yellow plastic. This is imitation.

With November sales being so poor for so many people, it really is becoming critical that iStock either come clean and say they don't want Exclusives any more, or that they are aiming to do something to improve the situation. Otherwise I know that quite a few people's New Year Resolutions will include pulling their entire portfolio and going elsewhere.

Keeping on the subject of exclusives, despite some of the theories floating around the forums and the business obstacles that we have acknowledged and addressed in the other posts, we want to emphasize that we truly value our Exclusives. While we maintain and expand on on all of the above resources, we are also continuing our plans for new features and tools that will help you make smart business decisions and drive new customers to all the Getty Images sites.

Thanks, Alistair. Yes, I did read it and I'm not actually planning a move or to drop exclusivity myself - at least, not in the near future. I have too many eggs in this basket and other reasons for staying (such as dodgy health - so I don't want to get involved in too many other sites in case I inconsiderately drop dead and leave my poor husband with a load of admin) but if things haven't improved by March, then I might have a rethink. I do know other people who are seriously discontented and disillusioned, however.

When iStock is almost your only means of support and your income drops by hundreds of pounds a month it is an important matter. I know that some people are entirely dependent on iStock income: thankfully, my husband and I have small pensions and do some freelance design - but at our age we really don't want to have to go back to design full time. I'm only thankful I no longer have a family to feed!

It really would be madness for iStock to lose their exclusives. I'll never forget the pleasure I got when I found something in a chatroom on the web by someone who had used one of my old Victorian illustrations and was recommending my portfolio to others because of it. Those things wouldn't be found anywhere else (well, they might be found on Getty now!).

Sales suck. Why have my sales fallening off the face of the earth after August? I was getting over 600 downloads a month. The last three months just over 200. Really? Sales sucks!

Even including the Getty (Vetta/E+) sales, November is my worst November since Nov 2008.

A total disaster.

November was my best month of the year...small portfolio though, does not take many downloads to push it one way or the other.

I must say that the trend is up. Sep was the lowest but if I take it out, every month is getting better than the previous one.

I had double the number of regular downloads in Nov 11 compared to Nov 12. We have lost alot of buyers in my opinion.

the buyers are still same numbers but more and more photos is uploaded, so more and more photos will mean less sale for everybody. It's simple.

People like me sell a few to buyers that would buy it from one of you otherwhise, simple matematic.

Ah, if only it was that simple!

If the decline in sales was a function of the buyer / library size ratio then you'd see a gradual, predictable decline.

Unfortunately what those of us who have enough images selling over enough years are seeing is a precipitous drop that happened around the same time iStock decided it was going to take a ruthlessly short term view to maximise profit at the expense of everything else, including long term sustainability.
