Here is the explanation:

Hello,

We have sent your PayPal payment twice in error. Please return the funds to us at your earliest convenience at accounting@gettyimages.com

We apologize for any inconvenience, please contact me if you have any questions.

Regards
Janet McClelland
Accounts Payable Specialist

I got this too. But if you go to refund the payment, it will get refunded to accounting(at)istockphoto.com not accounting(at)gettyimages as it states in the email...

When I put accounting(at)gettyimages.com, I notice that address isn't registered on Paypal, yet. I sent it anyway. I have a receipt if they need proof.

I emailed Janet back and asked if it should be sent as a refund or a payment and she said either way is fine. So I just refunded it, seemed easier.

I also think if you refund the payment, Paypal will issue you a fee for doing so.

I think you're dead wrong. I've issued both partial and full refunds on a few occasions and have never been charged a fee to do so. That's why the refund mechanism exists: to provide an Undo function for received funds.

I sent the refund off to accounting@gettyimages.com (as a personal payment) even though they don't have an account set up. I have an uneasy feeling..

You're absolutely right. I was reading it wrong on the Paypal site. My bad!

If you click on the transaction to open it, you will see a "Refund" link. Easy-peasy.

I think this is a strange and unclear solution.
You have money from @istockphoto.com and somebody tells you by email that you should return them to @gettyimages.com.

Yes, it is strange, so I refunded the money to original mail that I got it from.

What a farce! I refunded but it's taking £27.70 more due currency conversion!

Yes. This has caused me loads of grief!

It's cost me £5.36 extra, and instead of withdrawing the funds from PaPal, it's managed to take the money from my linked account via an "echeque" which would have left that account overdrawn when it was cleared. I've had to transfer money to that account to cover it.

So thanks iStock. Next time this happens perhaps you'd like to sort it out so it doesn't end up costing me money!

Could an Admin chime in here on what to do? I don't want to send a refund back to Istock only to have Getty send me a bunch of emails as to why I haven't refunded them.

ETA: Janet McClelland emailed me back and confirmed the refund back to Istock was fine.

To be fair it appears that the bank account mixup is due to me missing an option in the refund process and is my fault. Although I'm less than happy about this refund being needed in the first place.

It still appears after speaking to PayPal that the reversal can, and did in my case, attract an extra charge on the exchange rate.

Two payments recieved. Was tempted to send both to my current account.Never a dull moment at the comedy club these days.

ETA.Just sent the second payment back to accounting@gettyimages.com.

Paypal wanted to charge me $6.15 until i unchecked the box.So Istockphoto incur the cost of the transaction which seems only fair considering it was there blunder.

I see that everyone is stating to send payments back to  accounting@gettyimages.com.  Was there an email that was sent to contributors, that this is what we should do?  Im with other I would like an admin to confirm or send us an email with instructions.  I do not want any issues down the road.
