It's all well and good that iStock wants to get "fair market value" for the images on their site, but how does that help the photographer whose pictures are being sold for $19.00 (large file) but only sees $2.35 of it? I have a photo that's been downloaded 8 times, 4 of them large files. So those large files alone means iStock made $76.00 off of my photo, and I only see $9.54 from it. Doesn't seem right.

This isn't the place to argue that your royalty percentage is too low.

I do apologize. Pricing was mentioned and I got carried away.

So, the message was handcarried to the manager.

That is good.

Thanks Presshead, great feedback. I want to point out SPEED as a major factor that could have influenced drop in sales in last three months. Situation improved for a week or so during November but site is slow again. There are few online speed test tools that also confirm this story. Istock support, please check this issue. Thx

Thanks for such a well organized and to-the-point post.  You have iterated many of my concerns, expect from the perspective of a contributor.  I have all my eggs in one basket, so to speak.  In the next few months I will be doing a hard self-evaluation to determine what is best for me.  Of course, seeing things improve on the site (and a corresponding increase in royalties would certainly help make the process easier. I'm still a fan boy, but some of the recent decisions to change things, just for the sake of changing, has me shaking my head.

P.S. If sjlocke can have such a nice loope tool on his web site, why is it so hard for iStock to do the same thing?  Sean, you need to hire out your services!

I have just come back to have a look at the site after one of my colleagues mentioned that the Zoom function is back.  It does look good I must say and seems to load quicker than its previous incarnation.

however, I just wanted to say that there is a lot of talk about how dreadful Best Match is at the moment and how it got even worse.

Ive just taken a good look and searched for the sort of things I normally or typically look for.  I just cannot believe it. How can 18 images by the same photographer all in a row of the same subject possibly be part of a legitimate Best Match?

I am sorry, but until this changes for the good (it is truly dreadful at the moment) neither myself nor any of my colleagues are likely to be rushing back here for stock images. Just have a look how well Best Match type seaches work on other sites and perhaps it will be easy to understand why previously dedicated buyers like me (and others) prefer to buy elsewhere at the moment.

Sorry for my negative comments once again

Again, thanks for your input on all this!! Could you provide an example of what you are searching on? Or better yet, if you have time, add it to the BM thread that has been going on for a a couple weeks now. They do seem to be reading the forums now and there is someone from iStock directly replying in the current active BM thread.
