^ I think it may be because we have now had 4.75 months of data recording differently and it would just corrupt that BM too.  To be honest I think they have already done it and the results showed a massive preference to new images which weren't going back in the search because views weren't (and still aren't) being recorded like they were before september.

2012 files are dead. That's ONE YEAR OF WORK.
I won't be uploading anything until this mess is fixed.

Let's hope what buyers are still here search by File Age as well as BM.

If there are any buyers reading this thread I would be interested in knowing if you do search by File Age.

I don't think buyers touch the sorter that much.... I don't do it when I buy... because I expect the search results to find me what I'm looking for > I expect the BM to work.

An example of disappearing E+ files:  Seattle skyline; my E+, uploaded a few months ago, is now on page 20 out of 33.  Vaporized. (At least that's the way I see it on my end, your results may vary).

As much as I'd like to see August 2012 BM, I'm afraid that's not possible for whatever reasons. So we'd better help them tune BM right than wish something impossible to happen.
However, iS should know that BM should be their top 1 priority. Having a smart search engine that knows how to treat keywords and phrases with the right images is a make or break thing for both buyers and contributors.

I just wish we could help them tune BM by sending our feedback and screenshots for certain phrases and keywords...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the old BM would even work since ingestion of all the Getty-owned images. That BM put them all at the front and pushed us all off the cliff. Am I understanding that rightly?

What I know is that as a newbie with a small portfolio I had twice as many downloads in July and August as what I've had since the September debacle.  And even tho it's still small I've probably doubled the size of my portfolio since then so in theory I should be getting MORE sales.   Whatever it was doing over the summer was working for me.  Whatever it is doing NOW is not.  When I look at my own portfolio and switch it from file age to BM I have ONE image that moves around.  My latest download and my latest upload simply switch places.  That's it.  Nothing else moves.  Only looking at it from the Number of Downloads sort gets anything to move.  Of course part of my problem is that I have a tiny portfolio and hardly any sales.  But I would still expect more than 2 images to trade places if I change the sort method.

If non exclusives files are going to stay first in BM and E+ continue being pushed back in BM, as it happened during the last 5 months, whats reason to stay exclusive? Non exclusives right now are doing the best business here while exclusives see their sales either plummeted or non existing. Non exclusives also have the income from other websites. IS must do something about or at least let us know if they are going to keep supporting non exclusive members. If on top of that, they exclude exclusive images from the first level of bM, that would be the coup of grace and a mandatory goodbye for crowns all over the site.

I can understand frustration over lost sales but you are over exaggerating.

Out of curiosity, I searched "family" which returns 214,201 results.

Among the first 20 results, 13 are from exclusives out of which 7 are E+
Among the first 50 results, 39 are from exclusives out of which 17 are E+
Among the first 100 results, 81 are from exclusives out of which 30 are E+.

What do you suggest fair distribution should be?

Do you want to ban non exclusives?? Do customers not deserve variety. The royalties were cut severely for independents and and the best  best match was changed to heavily favor exclusives. What happened. Did the site thrive? Were the customers happier? For many of us we stopped uploading. The BM was changed to help exclusives and guess what? It did not work. It was short term and destructive. You need a bigger better pie to sell. Not just a bigger slice of a shrinking stale one.

Slobo, you check just one keyword, check two keywords and I guaranty you will find 70-80 per cent non exclusive. I am not saying that non exclusives have to be banned, just give exclusives some advantages since our files are more expensive and we do not have any other place to go when sales plummet. I am asking IS if they plan to keep favoring non exclusives, for me to became one of them, because I want my files first in BM like anybody else.
Of course i want to know their intentions because I dont want to drop the crown and then they change their minds and favor exclusives like before september.

Seriously??. Exclusives have a big advantage in BM. You also get better royalties. Go independent and see where your images are found. Why do you think that some that have dropped the crown have put it on again. Do you think it was working for exclusive images to be pushed even more? Customers did not think so. So you had a bigger slice of a smaller pie. Trouble is when customers do go elsewhere it is hard to get them back.

Well said, Mark!  In reading this forum over the past couple weeks, my perception is that many of the most vocal/'powerful' contributors would love for IS to push out newer contributors/files through a BM that favors 'downloads' (basically, putting more weight on past work) instead of promoting newer contributors/files that have great dowloads/file ratios and deserve to have their work shown...

this latter emphasis on 'relevant' files seems to be working well for a 'certain other' large stock site...
