Someone else has already asked this, but could we have a locked summary thread of RR's responses - trawling 33+ pages takes too long.

The OP should have all her posts in it. I just added her latest post to it.

In response to a great question raised today in this thread, a couple of folks from the content team are writing up a post that addresses what you, as an individual contributor, can do to drive your business forward on iStockphoto. We have some good thoughts on this and will share ASAP.

Can we have some word on why so many searches are totally filled with Getty Agency files.  For instance "Setting the table", the first 200 images in the Best Match are Getty Agency and there are literally 0 images of setting the table and the first 186 or so images don't even have a table, how can this be the best match?

Edit:  It's actually around the first 700 images in the Best Match with a few CSA images followed by edstock images.  As far as I can tell the first non Getty image in the Best Match appear around 900th in the search.

You can if you take it to the BM thread. There will be more coming from that thread I'm sure.

I've been posting this stuff for days (mainly about the my hometown "richmond, virginia" which a couple days ago had 18 out of the first 20 images in the BM as Getty Agency, today it's 48 of the first 50).  I haven't seen any response over there in a while so I wasn't sure if anyone was reading those.

No but I got an advance copy of it:
1. Read our creative briefs and shoot lots of what we suggest
2. Shoot high quality images of useful concepts and keyword them appropriatly. Be sure the images meet our technical standards.
3. Make sure you are taking full advantage of the "Plus Collections" by using 100% of your Plus Collection allocation.
4. Take lots of photos with your iPhone.
5. We have a lot more great improvements coming! We're working on some great plans that will help you grow your stock photography business that we can't tell you about right now. Soon, we will tell you more!

Lobo, could we have date and time tags on the posts from the OP? It would help to keep track and then if we wanted to read comments from contributors in that area of the thread, we could.

Kjay threw up permalinks in each of the posts in the OP so it wil provide some context. It will show the time of the post when you view the original post.

Well I can assure you that you aren't going to get a response in here. So, how about this is the last time you post about it here? I feel like I'm being pretty clear.

ETA: I should have tried to rhyme that more.

Is there a plan to make image thumbnail previews a bit sharper than as they are now? If you look on Getty or on TS same images look far more attractive with better sharpness.

Well, I am just going to have to be frank here.  Evidently any adjustment to the RC credit system is off the table, and without that, there is no way to regain the good will of most of the contributor community.  We are here to sell images and make money, and when the site continues to take a higher and higher percent of our work, there is no way to feel good about that company.  Contributors who are also buyers have no incentive to buy here anymore, and none of us have any incentive to refer the site to buyers.  Unless this one issue, which is CRUCIAL to contributors bottom lines, is remedied, the site will continue its decline.  No amount of communication or (loooong overdue) bug fixes will matter if there are no buyers, and the buyers aren't likely to come back to a place that is paying artists so poorly.

Clearly this thread was an exercise in PR and not a serious effort to repair relations with contributors, because money IS what's going to make us happy.

All of this is sort of like losing an old friend, but not caring so much because their personality went sour, and they just weren't fun or nice anymore.

And reading the forums for the past year has made it clear that some of you think we are lazy, incompetent, greedy or uncaring.

Getty has taken a comany with one of the best brand image in the industry and made it one of the most hated. What does that say about its management of iStock?

Posted By rrockafellar:
IMO, if we could to step back together and do a collective reset, we would return the forums to a more productive place for sharing of information about the iStock business, be that HQ to the community or peer to peer. It is not a very civilized place at the moment. I'll take part of the blame for that since we changed our communication style this past year and aren't sharing enough information, but I will need all of your help to turn the tone around.

Your part in this reset is to listen, ask sensible questions, be patient as we tackle any issues that arise, and try to take the vitriol and hyperbole down a notch.

We as contributors have been stabbed in the back and are now being asked for a reset with the knife still there from the "money will not make you happy" days.

Remember this?:

Posted By Lobo:
Alright, folks. I'm going to make a few quick points and then provide a series of links. Take a gander:

1. It's been a while since there has been any kind of discussion and I can tell you it's nice it's starting again. Some of you might expect that immediately after the discussion starts we would see a bunch of changes. Well, there are a bunch of changes. Most of them are going on behind the scenes so we can continue to facilitate dialogue between the many layers at HQ and the many layers of the Contributor base. You've got their attention. I can assure you.

2. Clearly from the list of things we have been discussing there is no quick fix. We had some rough months and we are finally getting through them. For everyone wondering why HQ has come in here over the last week it's because we can safely say we are over a few hurdles. They might not be in line with ALL the issues pertaining to the Contributor base, but there has been some progress. The last week brought many new voices to the forums that you can expect to see in the future. So try and be nice.

3. The title of this thread: "Changes in the way we communicate to the iStock community"

4. Im not an Avatar. I'm a real boy!

So folks, here we are. We have some momentum and a bunch of attention on the contributor base. There are new resources bringing their expertise to the forums which will hopefully help the contributor base inform HQ in a more effective way and vice versa. In time I suspect we will see additional improvements to the communication offered by HQ. I'm hoping it helps. We are all hoping it helps.

I don't suspect people will be happy to have this thread locked right away, so I'm going to let it roll for a while. People will still be watching it, but it won't be open forever. If you want to discuss a specific issue we had talked about in here there are a couple of threads for you:

BM Discussion

The Return of the Zoom - TechVeep

Rate Schedule/What does NET mean?

Refunds - iStockLawyer

We will have some additional information available through out the week. There will be some additional guest moderators coming in to stoke some new discussions.

If you are spending lots of time posting mad in here I understand. I hope you also undertand that it's going to have to come to and end too. Try and be civil, folks. It's not as hard as the alternative.

(Edited on 2012-12-12 21:09:58 by Lobo)

Well it's clear it's come to the point where we can close this thread. I thank you all for participating and hope that we can continue to discuss the issues outlined in the post I've quoted above. I can assure you we will hear more from Rebecca in the future.

I've created a stickie for folks to refer to here.

Thanks, folks.
