Exclusives, delete your Instagram! - Or don't.

In case you haven't seen this elsewhere:
Instagram says it now has the right to sell your photos

... and you'll need to delete it before January, else they still make the rights grab.

"So w/ it's new terms & conditions, instagram is now the new istockphoto, except they won't have to pay you ANYTHING to use your images."

I'm doing so immediately! Thanks for the post! This is simply unacceptable, regardless whether Im a photographer or not!

PS: Any alternatives to Instagram with the same social component?

Thanks for the info. I tried reading their new terms but I´m not so good at legaleze and didn´t get this part. It´s too bad, as I´ve been enjoying IG as a fun diversion from the sometimes boring world of stock photos.

Does the same go for non instagram images on Facebook?

I'm waiting until January.  The number of people I've seen delete accounts already should be of interest to IG/Facebook and I'm hoping (probably in vain) that they re-think the proposed changes.

BTW: the legalese in question is this:

"To help us deliver interesting paid or sponsored content or promotions, you agree that a business or other entity may pay us to display your username, likeness, photos (along with any associated metadata), and/or actions you take, in connection with paid or sponsored content or promotions, without any compensation to you"

I will wait until January as well. I doubt they will go through with this. Facebook has tried the same (a year ago?) and had to change things back when the community protested.

Why do they have to be so greedy?

I've deleted my account. So fed up up with this sneaky changes in agreements to cut up people from their rights.

Could be a spectaular suicide if they go through with this. One to keep an eye on for sure.

I´ve already posted a protest message on IG threatening to delete my account if they go through with it. I think everyone should do this so they get the idea of how many people will leave.

Same here.  I don't even want to wait until January to see if they cave to public pressure, because even if they do, that won't negate the fact that they tried to get away with it.
