Good stuff Stan.

Frankly I am not so comfortable that they have any interest. They say they do but obvious actions lately speak louder than words.

Lets not all pretend this just now is showing its ugly head. It has been since the Getty buy out.

Seems to me that We have some people at top who are leary of doing anything against the grain.

In other words if corporate speaks the management will follow. And I doubt if any of us were in thier position we would do anything different. Its human nature. Self preservation.

This "decision" of continuing our relationship with this company as it stands is weighing heavy on all of us. But we do have the ability to end it and be done with it and move on. They can't stop any of us from doing just that.

In reality as much as it hurts that is the only real option we have. Stay and continue this fiascal or leave and start over with other agencies.

It is really down to that now I think. And really , don't think Getty would care either way. In the big picture we all are small fish and can be replaced.

Cold, harsh, brash... but thats what we have here. And Getty in the end won't be hurt by any of us leaving.

Now I think I will sit back and try and consume what I have been reading here lately.

Drinking may be in the near future.

Even though I agree with Stan 100%, we don't know the actual plans of Getty or Caryle group. Bruce built this place from scratch and wanted to see it as a success. It was totally different time and environment back then. iStock is now more corporate than ever. And they have been sold.

We don't know whether Getty wants iStock to merge with itself or to shut it down or something else. We know that every single step they took since Sept. 2012 was wrong somehow or badly done and certainly didn't help iS to sustain, recover and gain more buyers.

Great words Stan, and so well presnted without emotion or anger. If only someone from high up the management ladder would read those words carefully, and react, and communicate. Isn't it obvious that by saying nothing we imagine everything, usually falling to the worst possible scenario. That's how people react when they don't know what's happening but see terrible things going on around them.
Over the years I have been a member of this community I have seen many previous episodes where things have gone out of control and people have threatened to drop their crowns or pull their portfolios; often that was a hollow threat. But now, these last few days look at the number of people who have actually gone so far as to delete files, even best sellers.
Why am I saying all of this? Why do I and countless others bother to waste time writing here? Probably because we don't want to see iStock die.
We don't want to believe that we have been lied to about the "New way we communicate". Sure, someone is reading them, but nobody from the management of iStock is showing any signs of taking one tiny bit of notice. They can't even be bothered to come in here and say anything.

Didn't last very long did it? The December/2012 sales thread looks like the proverbial car crash that we can't look away from. The BM discussion thread is heading the same way. The "confusion about the views thread" is getting more confused. And still no communication. Honestly, what can the contributor base take from this? Lack of communication will only breed more and more conspiracy theories that iStock is sinking/trying to get rid of its faithful exclusive contributors and so on. Time for some more communication folks.

Those words from RR posted just last month are so hollow. iStock Leadership, you've done nothing to earn our trust or confidence. Business as usual, or a new era of communication? The ball is in your court Rebecca.

Ok, I understand that Saturday and Sunday are weekend in the Christian world and no one here would realistically expect any communication from a strictly 9-5 company (even though they trade 24/7). Monday is the first day of the working week and here we are close to the end of the working day in their part of the world with absolutely no response from those who manage iStockphoto.com. It is no exaggeration to say that there is a revolution underway. People are deactivating images in their portfolios, Two weeks from now there will be a mass deactivation process, not from iStock but from the ones who feed iStock.
Amazingly there has not been a word from management, despite the promise of a change in the way they communicate.
Crowdsourcing can be an incredibly powerful way of drawing on expertise and resources. It is also incredibly difficult to control, especially when the crowd in toto turns against the crowdsourcer. The last few days have seen the crowd turn. No longer are they a community working together for iStock, they look more like a crowd fighting back and looking to ways to protect themselves.
Oi, pitch me against a pitbull in an open field and I have a fighting chance. Put me against that same pitbull that has been pushed into a corner with his back against the wall ... no way Sir!

I respectfully disagree. I do not discard my morals and values at the door of my workplace in the name of profit. I wouldn't be able to sleep at night or look myself in the mirror if I did. No amount of money could convince me to go along with such sinister actions, and I would be turning in my resignation right about now.
