He is just saying to be sure before you act. What a pain to Deactivate and then turn around and beg to come back. Its a waste of man hours for both parties and a poor business decesion. Nothing wrong with us taking a stand and if we are going to take it then do it without looking back all the time. Biggest mistake you can make in business is to let your emotions guide you! I have a family to feed and if I break exclusivity it is for a reason like to earn more $$$.

I appreciate that, Mr. Barnes. You don't normally hold back in here so I hope people take note of you comments.

I'm still feeling a little sheepish about my late night rant but I'm thinking you all owed me at least one public melt down.

Just to inject a little positivity into this - a week or so ago I emailed CE about a possible licence infringement on one of my images. They acknowledged my email the following day. Then they must have immediately raised the matter with the buyer as I receieved an nice extended licence for $50 a few days later.

Not all communication is broken.

Well I can wait as it is my choice to sell here or not. I am not going to let emotions guide my business mind. Here is to hoping things can turn around and if not I know where the door is.

I honestly hope more people take this attitude. It could get difficult for the folks ramping up to deactivate files to take a stand only to change their minds and request reactivations. We've already seen contacts from people who have deactivated a chunk of their portfolio who want reactivations. We've closed an account too. One whole account.

Imagine what will occur when the dust settles -and it will settle- after the contributor imposed deadline of Feb2. There are individuals involved in that piece of protest that are currently running folks into a tough spot. Avatars, external forum campaigns and the like typically hurt the individual contributors more than they do Getty or iStock. Don't think we haven't been here before. Have we reached critical mass on all these issues? Maybe. I guess we will see.

FEB 2 - VIVA LA REVOLUTION!!!!!

I hear the screams of pain from injured masses. Deactivate! Close My Account! Show da Man!

If a contributor feels that this is what he or she has to do to maintain their artistic integrity while making an invaluable statement to the greedy 1 percent who run Getty and iStock and the rest of the corporate world then who am I to find fault? I salute your courage in this and I will be interested to see how it affects the visibility of my files that remain.

God Speed!

Of all the Admins - you're the one that I most admire. Don't feel sheepish.

Yep. You have to know that if your serious about closing your account we can accommodate that. You can manually say good bye to all you uploads one at a time if that's your pleasure but the reactivation of those files could be problematic. I just figure it's important for people to realize it takes way more work for contributor relations to reactivate files than it takes for you to deactivate them. I would really consider the ramifications before I got to far ahead of myself.

I do care about all this. It's concerns me that there are people who are already half gone from the site motivating people to jump on board this new band wagon. In the past we've seen exclusives dump their crown only to scramble back 3 months or so later. This deactivation excersise is understandable considering everything just don't say I didn't warn you all.

The way to keep civil posts in these forums is keep people informed as Rebecca acknowledged in her post on the 7th of December.

“if we could to step back together and do a collective reset, we would return the forums to a more productive place for sharing of information about the iStock business, be that HQ to the community or peer to peer. It is not a very civilized place at the moment. I'll take part of the blame for that since we changed our communication style this past year and aren't sharing enough information, but I will need all of your help to turn the tone around.”

And the over whelming response to her post was great

Since then she  and HQ have  communicated almost nothing.

Despite several major issues that have occurred since this ‘collective reset’,  communication on most of these issues has been minimal, it matters to contributors that iStock is on our side, not trying to rip us off, so forgive me if I get a little cross when no answers on serious issues are forthcoming.

I understand, that some  technical issues will take time to resolve and if  a lawyer is involved you don’t get instant answers, but  a simple questions like this :- Forum Home >> Exclusivity Program >> dear iStock, what do You think about exclusivity?  should get some sort of a reply, but no it gets zero response.

Lobo, I would not have your job for all the tea in China , but people are upset here because they feel that there job here is far from secure, and that iStock are doing nothing to assure them that this is not the case, in fact the continued silence from TPTB just confirms every ones worst fears.

So it's probably abundantly clear that I too suffer from frustration in here. Im not perfect. Rather than delete the post I'm going to leave it up as a testament to how batshit crazy I'm becoming from reading some of the comments in here. I'm not proud of the post nor do I think it's appropriate. Apologies to all I quoted and the general threats of hellfire and hammers. It's getting crazy in here.

I'm going to take a little break. I'll be back in a few.

No sweat Lobo, I don't take any comments personally. Believe it or not I'm sympathetic with the admins, it can't be easy dealing with a hornets nest when there is no real info passed down. I guess its easy to forget the atmosphere can become rarified on both sides of the fence.

So nice to see Lobo venting his frustrations in the forums rather than punching a bag of kittens. Nice to see a lot of communications, and some positive changes around the site. Almost feel some signs of friendliness in some posts. Personally I feel positive about the future here.

One more thing. Mr Barnes, I can assure you that I am not a punk.

And I didn't call you a punk - this was a "PUNK" thread that was started.

I'm sure tensions are high all over the place. I would hate to be in the iStock office currently.  However, this is a business and many are very angry over the issues that not only have arisen the last few months, but issues that have been around for 2 yrs.  While there are some childish remarks, there are many that are sound business oriented questions, comments that NEVER get reponded to.

The OP was suppose to talk about "A better communication strategy" which has failed imo.  This could have been the beginning of something good if you put someone on this that had a backbone, could take the negative remarks and deal and move forward with good communication along the way. Lobo, it can't be you as your responsibilities are too great, right?, but it needs to be someone who's sole job is to make sure that weekly regular communications are happening for the community.

There are so many issues that you can no longer expect the community to sit back and wait for answers while watching steps being taken that give a very negative perception to its consituents.

I'm sure many in HQ are burnt, nervs are spent, everyone walking on egg shells.  Lets flip that to contributors that rely on this as their sole income. Worrying daily that they won't be able to buy food, pay rent/mortgage, find a job  etc.

The issues at hand are HUGE.....I just ask that you get someone who has an understanding of communcation and can hit each dept daily and come up with a communication schedule to answer questions and get the latest and greatest news out there.....Preferably someone with a mature business background.

I can't say sorry iStock is going through this as many of the issues were made by iStock and Getty.  I can say, and I'm sure many others are hoping for the best that we start working together again. Also, rather than fighting OUR agency we chose to sell our product through, we start coming back together soon.

Innkstudios, This thread wasn't going to house all the communications. We can easily acknowledgement that we have to do better but . I think it's much easier for the contributor base to ask questions without having to go through the numerous departments we have to run things past before we can post any responses. It's all serious stuff and it requires careful consideration before we comment or wade into the discussion.

I should have ended this thread much earlier. That's my bad. How about I assure you we are going to have more to talk about this week. So we can now lay this thread to rest while we prepare for another series of discussions.

Thanks, folks.
