I am looking for some people to test my upcoming game. It plays in the browser, all html5+js so no plugins, etc. needed.
The game is a retro-style 2d arcade shooter, a kind of a modernized Atari / NES style thing (oh yeah, and it can be old-school challenging too
Currently I am focusing on Google Chrome and I'd recommend having 1600x1050 screen resolution. So if anyone has a matching setup, I'd appreciate some feedback.
You move with arrow keys and shoot with either Space or Ctrl (both do the same thing)
The game can be played here:
Hope you enjoy! Any constructive criticism welcome.

the name is terrible, there's some constructive criticism. are you really planning on using the word 'retard'?

^ Didn't try the game but I second this opinion. Change the name.

Agree. I wouldn't try this BECAUSE of the name. Change it.

'retards are coming' i played it and was pretty useless actually i think i am the retard in this game

Yup, the name alone stopped me trying.

Well, it's a work in progress, so there is a LOT of things that are going to be changed / added.
"i played it and was pretty useless actually i think i am the retard in this game"
Don't worry susan, I'll introduce some power-ups to help out the player on his noble quest Probably would be also a good idea to make it a bit more easy to start with and then build up the intensity later on
M3 Murder Mutant Marauders!
For those who feel offended by the language used, etc. - don't, no need to. Unless you are the sort person who wouldn't normally watch a movie where there's a chance some actor might use the F word or where death could be portrayed graphically. To each his own, I respect everyones opinion.
It's a pretty 'dumb' game, not making any real statements and not taking itself very seriously. A Space Retard is a fictional, blue, pixelated creature, making weird noises when being shot at by the Space Murderer, that's all. The Space Murderer is an evil character though, but he has a good reason to hate the blue guys
At this early stage of development, I was hoping for comments mostly related to the initial gameplay experience or technical issues (I know not everyone uses Chrome, but for now Chrome please), but thanks everyone for taking time to leave feedback.
And keep posting if anyone has anything to add.

A game that came with winzip? Don't remember that one, I might do like different game modes or difficulty settings. Back to the drawing board

you might want to check out thi game on android, I loved it - Radiant HD. And please drop the retards from the name, not funny dude

You mean this Radiant HD ? It does look awesome Thanks for this, it also has various game modes, which is what I'll probably end up doing (to have some easier gameplay as well as the hardcore one)

Asteroids! Haven't seen that one in a while, a total classic!

I'd change the word "retard" as it traditionally doesn't mean what you are insisting it does. Instead it means "something that is slowly released" and has origins in the pharmaceutical industry. I can see why you want to use the name as it gives you exposure to the public, yet going against your critique group isn't a good idea!

I agree going against your critique group would be a weird idea.
Did you play the game btw.?

Yeah I had a go on safari instead of chrome and the game worked fine. My only issue with the game is the enemies take far too many shots to kill before they get close, so it turns more into an "avoid the alien" game instead of what I was expecting (similar to Jamestown). Could also use some sort of legend to explain what each of the powerups and enemies actually are and do.

Thanks for testing Jjohnson.
I agree, it is a bit of an "avoid the alien" kind of thing without powerups - you are a bit weak to start with. They are being made though, was hoping to post an update this Sunday, but not quite ready yet, need few more days (where I can find some spare time that is
In terms of difficulty - what I've decided is, what you can currently play will effectively become a "hardcore / survival" mode, where it's tough right away, and there are big swarms of enemies instantly - there will be a high score table added, so it's gonna be all about your reflexes, staying alive as long as possible and getting the biggest score.
I am also going to add a "standard" mode, where it will start pretty easy, gradually picking the pace, and gradually introducing different types of enemies. It will have some "storyline" elements as well - I am focusing on the hardcore mode first though.
And the legend of some sort is a great idea IMHO, so I'll look into that as well

Quick Update: I do have a new version of the game literally ready-to-go, but I am holding back... because, after some serious consideration I have decided to drop the R word! Yep Actually, I have decided to make the game non-explicit entirely. No genocide, no "fucking hell", none of that.
Need to re-think the text and re-do some audio as well, the new game will have it's own new thread soon when it's all sorted.
In the meanwhile, while I'm still "censoring" - if anyone has some ideas for names of the enemies, etc. please let me know. Stupidity totally welcome, as long as it's child-friendly
