![]() ![]() Posted Sat Jan 12 9:10AM | Posted By GavinD: It will be interesting to see how long they take to disappear from Getty's site. Don't hold your breath - I deactivated an old file here many months ago specifically for the purpose of seeing how long it would take. A few months later it is still active on Getty despite alerting CR and the iS video team. |
![]() ![]() Posted Sat Jan 12 9:27AM | Posted By ClarkandCompany: There is no way to opt out Martine. And you have a picture in the Google "deal". Sorry Yes I do know I have a file there. And there are children on it as well. I don't think it will do anything if I desactivate it now since it is already downloaded. |
![]() ![]() Posted Sat Jan 12 9:38AM | Deactivation from istock doesn't mean quick and automatic deactivation from Getty. It took me 2 months to get files deactivated disappear from Getty last year. Besides the files are already sold to Google so it won't help. I still can't believe this deal .... |
![]() ![]() Posted Sat Jan 12 10:47AM | I deactivated a bunch of MR images last night and am going to pull a few more today. Some of these were among my best earners (at least before everything went off a cliff in September) so my already pathetic earnings will be further eroded but it's not worth worrying about having these images cut loose on the net. |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Posted Sat Jan 12 2:12PM | I've started to deactivate my model released files. Takes forever even with a small portfolio. |

Susan check the other thread -- Sean created a GreaseMonkey script that adds a "deactivate" column to the MyUploads page - works like a charm!!! That's a great service though, thanks Sean. I'll do the rest when I get back in Monday. |

I activated my Google+ account, then got the message that I wasn't allowed to post a comment there. Google+ deactivated once again. I'm really disappointed in Google for their lack of responsibility in this deal. I've been to both of their corporate headquarters, and they appear to be a company that gives consideration to peoples' needs (at least as far as treating their employees is concerned). My respect for them just went down more than a few notches. At this point, as far as I'm concerned, they're no better than every other crooked corporation out there. They could have taken the high road. But nope. (Edited on 2013-01-12 16:32:53 by jhorrocks) |
![]() ![]() Posted Sat Jan 12 6:29PM | So the contract is between the model and the photographer (actor and videographer in my case) - is this also the case for 'lypse shoots? I didn't hire them, or, in particular, explain the ins and outs of potential useage. |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Posted Sat Jan 12 6:40PM | Why would Getty release our images to a situation where there are no restrictions about using images with models as is industry standard? That sounds like negligence. This almost sets a precedent in my eyes that, really, any license restriction here, or at Getty is meaningless. Including print restrictions, etc. |

Not so easy for those who depend on istock for their income. |
![]() Posted Sun Jan 13 4:43AM | I deleted all my model released photos from Istock when the RC hit the fan. That was a huge relief now, and I feel for all of you that have lost controll of pictures of your family and friends. |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Posted Sun Jan 13 6:15AM | I will deactivate some of my images at Getty. I've uploaded my images for controlled purchase tracking. Now this rule is broken. I will not upload model released images anymore. (Edited on 2013-01-13 06:20:31 by gmutlu) |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Posted Sun Jan 13 9:46AM | Welcome to the post modern world. Honor is nothing and greed is everytying. Shareholders want their money and coporations are soulless entitites that thrive when greedy. I don't know what else to say. Unfortunaly this is the reality that we live in and until a governing body steps in and hold coporations accoutnable with severe punishments than nothing will change. That's my big picture 2 cents on the situation. |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Posted Sun Jan 13 9:50AM | As an indie, I have had to deal with a couple of cases of misuse myself, since one can't be sure where the images were downloaded. In one case, where an elderly couple was used in a billboard campaign against syphillus, a phone call explaining I was the copyright holder and the image was not authorized for such use was sufficient to get the image out of the campaign. In the second case, it was a picture used in an offensive way by a television show. That one required a letter from my lawyer and some back and forth. It ended up costing me $1100 for his time, al totaled. So it is possible to deal with misuse, but it can be a bit expensive, particularly if it was happening on a large scale. I was fortunate in that my models were not litigious and didn't blame me. They were satisfied that I had dealt with the situation and gotten their pictures removed. Some models might not be as understanding. |
![]() ![]() Posted Mon Jan 14 9:56PM | Delete, delete, in the process...same here, too scary...nothing to stop them from using indies' pics also. Unreal. |
