Dear iStock,

Since keyword order is an important factor in search I am getting more then fed up with your reviewers eliminating relevant keywords and therefore shifting around the keywords. Now there even seems to be a bug where editing the image shows the correct order but on site it shows the wrong order.

For instance, this image:

file_thumbview_approve

Has been accepted but the reviewer removed the following keywords:

{[ Beak,  Feather (Animal Body Part),  Animal Neck (Animal Body Part),  Animal Leg (Animal Limb)]}

These keywords look relevant to me so an unnecessary step from the reviewer's point of view and probably just for his/her own amusement because they know the keywords will shift around.

This is what the site shows:

Wildlife, Nature, Outdoors, Vertical, Belgium, Europe, Beak, Animal Leg,Animal Body, Feather, Bird, Animal, Black, Red, Vertebrate, Beauty In Nature, One Animal, Grass, White Stork, Stork, Animal Neck, Standing,Resting, Tall, Elegance, White, Field

While editing the file information shows the correct order: White Stork, white, stork, etc...

On top of that sales are very slow lately and I am still getting rejections on almost every composite I submit. Istock is starting to look like a waste of time to me, it is up to you to decide if I am right or wrong.

Regards,
Wim

Hi,

I moved your thread to the keywords forum, as keywords seemed to be the main thing that you have an issue with.

As for sales, rejections and what may be a waste of your time, actually, it is not for anyone at iStock to decide about that, only you know how much your time is worth to you. If you'd like to comment on sales matters further, there are already several open threads in the Discussion forum. And you are always welcome to post any rejected files in the Critique Request forum if you are having trouble getting things accepted. Composites can be particularly tricky to get accepted unless the concept is sound and extremely well executed technically.

Hi kelvin,

Thanks for moving the thread mate, I didn't know there was a seprate section for keywords.

As for sales and rejections, I know what I am doing by now so do not require any help in that area, besides posting about that would truly be a waste of my time wink

Wim, to put it briefly, a feather deserves the keyword feather; a whole bird does not, unless it happens to be a peacock in full display.

Think what you would expect to find if you were searching for feather. It is unlikely that you would want to see images of every bird in the collection.

Regarding the ordering of keywords, you have no control over it. Keywords order themselves according to the number of times your image is accessed via that keyword. So your first keyword will be the one that was most effective in finding your image.

You've lost me there mate!

LINK SNIPPED

I suggest you start removing keywords then wink

What is it with people giving advice or critique while they haven't even looked into their own ports or follow their own advice? amazes me every time.

Thanks though for the info on the keyword order Roger.

Regards,
Wim

ps. it's a pain to edit my posts again and remove the extra space, is there no easy fix for this?

My advice was aimed at explaining why your keywords were not accepted.

I could tell you how to avoid the extra space, Wim, but I'm concerned that you would turn it into a criticism of my own posts.

lol, no worries Roger, my issue lays not with you. I always look at the commentor's port first for credibility, thats just a habit of mine. I guess for independents the keywording rules are more strict

And as for the spaces I doesn't matter anyway since I try to stay away from forums as much as possible.

Thanks again for your input and take care.
