Posted Wed Jan 23 2:15AM | (sigh)...Amen...we should start a campaign to bring him back and try to re-live the glory years of iStock! |

plus i have lost lot of my old videos due to hard disk crash.... is there a way to extract them from my portfolio here ... otherwise it will be a huge loss....
Same procedure for both of your requests - go Help ... Contact Us ... Contributor Relations.
Regarding your old videos, you may well be lucky, but there is likely to be an administration fee. If so, please share, it could be useful for others to know. |

Nop, you cannot bring back the videos you've lost. Back in the days you could download your whole portfolio for $75 (photo) but that option was scraped somewhere along the way. Don't know about footage.
I've lost over 800 clips in December 2012 due to hard drive failure and tried to bring those back but no luck... Anyways, big thanks to Vcr and Oildrop9 for trying. |
Posted Wed Jan 23 6:41AM | Backup your friend! I use 4 - 1TB hard drives in Raid 10 setup. Both speed and recovery is possible.
Another external hard drive with regular syncronization...
Hard drives are sneaky electronic devices. They always fail! |

Shame. |
Posted Wed Jan 23 10:10AM | What baffles me is all this type of talk and bashing of iStock, yet iStock has provided no communication to clarify/deny/explain/enlighten it's contributors. Is it the market, system issues, transfer issues, competition...what does iStock think is causing the decline in sales. Is the decline accross the board or just with the folks complaining here? Any insight, and projections from iStock would be greatly appreciated I think.
I think most of us are on the fence...should we concentrate on new content or giving up being exclusive and branching out.

Some may say it is the Canadian style management ,lol. I love Canadians!
a side note, among my January latest 20 downloads on the first page, 8 of them are the first time downloads. So...

I'm hoping these lower sales trends aren't due to the various sites out there giving away stock clips for free or even offering "all you can eat" service for a monthly fee.
I don't want to post links publicly. If you want an example, site mail me.

Maybe, however, I find such site don't have a consistant quality of content. There are plenty of monthly fee sites, but as far as I know they all limit downloads per day...iStock offers this also...I wonder how that factors in to contributor earnings if a person with a subscriptions downloads a video... |

Posted Thu Jan 24 6:41AM | You will not get an answer on this from iStock, to many factors. Pricing of video is a bit high, demand is down across the board, the competition is catching up on size of library and quality just to name a few. If this stays the new normal here then I know what I need to do. Unfortunately iStock has never given video a lot of attention like other sites have! Getty sales are nice to have but won't pay the bills as I earn way more here then at Getty. You can't view our video on an iPad here and at other sites you can. They could have released a stock video plugin for Adobe and FCPX but haven't. Don't get me started on the lack of marketing for our work! Always do what is best for you, Jim and the video team are great but they are very limited in what they can do for us. |
Posted Thu Jan 24 8:09AM | Is the photo side hurting just the same? |
Posted Thu Jan 24 1:17PM | Today I got 4 sales on video which is a welcome sight. Hope that new BM alorithm did it's work. Most were middle of the road files, not to old not new. |
Posted Thu Jan 24 1:19PM | Great to hear James! got a few but not much. May you double it before the day is out |
Posted Sun Jan 27 5:40PM | Ended last week stronger lets see what the next 5 weeks brings! |
Posted Mon Jan 28 3:03PM | Good to know, Today is going well also but Photo is getting more hits too. I think this current BM is a vast improvement from what we had 2 weeks back. |
Posted Wed Jan 30 5:23AM | My sales have literally dropped off a cliff since the new BM adjustment .....again.

It's so bad that... My 45 photos on competition site earned today more than video (almost 700 files) in 2 days here.

Posted Wed Jan 30 7:59AM | Sales are still good for me since the end of last week |
