Is it possible to embed a sorting logic in to a url for search result on istock. For example, if I wanted to make a UBB link for my "see similar" images that is always set to 'best match' how can I do that and over ride whatever preference the user was using last?

I've seen some random alphanumeric characters that istock attaches to the end of the URL of search results, and it seems to change when I change it manually from 'best match' to something else, but once I've changed it to something else, and reuse the original URL with the alphanumeric characters, the search stay with whatever I last used as opposed to the 'best match' the from whence I grabbed it from.

Add ?facets=%7B"25"%3A"6"%7D to your search or lightbox urls. E.g.

or

You mean the stuff like '#123abcd' at the end of the URL? That almost certainly is something that the site scripts use to refer to cached search results. You don't want to ever include the hash and the junk that follows it when you give URLs to other people - it's not useful to anything other than your browser immediately after you have run the search you just performed.

Edit: Ugh...I hate UBB

Also, keep in mind that the user might've changed their sort order to, say, File Age because that's what they really want.
Forcing them to use the sort order that you want might piss them off.

It didn't seem to work, I clicked on it in Chrome on OS X, saw that the filter was file age, so I changed it to downloads, and tried your link again and opened it in a new broswer tab and the filter was on downloads, so I changed it again to contributor, then open your link again in a new tab and it had the filter for contributor. So I'm not able to over ride whatever was the last setting I used.

Apologies - I fixed my links. The 0 should've been 6

You make a valid point, I'm not trying to piss people off, I'm trying to help them find what they want with more ease. So if they are already clicking on my UBB links to see more, they might be better off having the filter changed to either 'downloads' or 'best match'. I figured this way they can use other customer's past buying choices to help them see which images are better for them.

Anyhow I was thinking of having an UBB image graphic that said something like 'see more business, sort by best match' or 'see mroe business, sort by downloads'. Then they can choose which ever.

Wow, that is amazing. Thanks so much!

Could you be so kind as to break out the other codes for me? ie, age, downloads, etc. Sorry I don't have the programming chops myself to know how to look it up myself.

The "25" is istock's code for the sort order facet. The "6" is the actual sort order used. Replace the 6 with:

"1" - Contributor
"2" - Title
"3" - Size
"4" - File Age
"5" - Rating
"6" - BM
"7" - DLs
