I am looking at ways to help promote my portfolio here at iStock. Being a reletivly new contributor I think I need the extra push. I have researched many ways that others promote their stock work...my question is what are the restrictions here. I can't find any clear information regarding where we can post our work (not sell; and watermarked) to get more exposure. Can I post watermarked on my website? Youtube? Elsewhere? Can I link back to iStock?

Sorry to be such a noob (but I am). And if this has been answered, stated clearly before any links would be appreciated.

Hi,

There's lots of useful info here:

New iStocker's FAQ

For photos, you can certainly link to your portfolio from another website. iStock don't allow the watermarked thumbnail images to be posted elsewhere, but you could just have a thumbnail of your own that point to a file or lightbox.

Regarding video promotion - you may get a better response by posting in the video forum, as far as I know, you can't post the clips to Youtube - but there may be some off site video promotion I'm not aware of that is allowed. The people in the video forum should be able to tell you what they do to promote their showreels.

Video forum

If the video promotion is your main concern, I can move this there for you, if you'd like.

Sure, please move to the video forum. Thank you.

I ask because I have seen videos watermarked by the creators on 3rd party videos hosting services which link back to their personal site and then link back to the stock site. They all appear to be non-exclusive. I am exclusive and I am curious if something along those lines is okay or not. My instincts say now, but it does seem like a decent way to self promote...

Yes, you can post your work on your own site (or YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook or whatever) for promotional purposes. You don't have to watermark it but adding a watermark makes it less desirable for someone to take it from your promo reel. Yes, you can link back to the site. This is covered by paragraph 2b of the ASA.

Hope this helps.

Video works the same way as photos. You can use the "share" links under the video and post them on social networks. They will trace back to your video togheter with your referal info.
