There is a major principle from which big companies suffer a lot: "We are so efficient that we cannot be effective". Up to you. I don't want anything but sales.

PS. Those FB groups aren't all that secret

I see you have already missed a lot of info by not having an open section.

That is debatable, but lets not have that debate here

Focus up, folks. Let's keep this rolling.

I, for one, appreciate the moderation here. Those "off site" places where people vent their frustrations kind of turn into dangerous back alleyways where you might easily get a black eye if you don't agree with the mob mentality.

I do sorta like the FB group I'm part of, though.

I think it's important that people have a place to let loose. In most cases it's the other people in those FB groups and sections of the interwebs that help round the corners of sharp opinions.

I have a facebook group too. It's only me in there but boy do I go off.

Nothing to debate if you think you are always right

This will end well. How about you let things get back on track in here. You can send me a site mail anytime you feel like discussing things. No, I have nothing to do with who gets picked for the inspection team.

I would like to see a section dedicated to quality control. The Istock "standard" explained in simple terms.

We did have regular input from our inspectors in the newsletter not that long ago.

That is an excellent idea. I recently tried to explain the difference to a new contributor between Vetta and Main Collection images by example, and failed miserably when it came to 'over processing, over filtering'. The adage 'if it fits' is far too vague, and to say esthetic decisions are subjective in this case is an easy way out.

An alternative to PTTOTW - Vernissage

And as for participating in the Critique Forum, how about carrier pigeons carrying Emoticons? Perhaps we will get the Nobel Prize for that.

This provides really solid reasoning for the need, thanks for taking the time

ETA: beautiful idea for PTOTW title change but I see being able to take advantage of it and prefer something that is clear and obvious to all members including Buyers.

Note: we did go ahead with "Weekly Showcase" for this week's thread. We felt it provides a level of consistency and a clear explanation of the content in the thread to those who don't understand. Plus it's short and easy to say aloud.

nothing is secret on the internet. heck, there was even one contributor from here that said "he/she" used a throw away email to get involved on this so called "secret". today's lesson is, there is nothing secret about anything posted on the internet.

Well, to be honest- and I should have probably quoted Inkkstudios- the only time I'm made aware of anything is when it's something that hasn't been brought up in the forums. No one has sent me screenshots or anything like that. Oh, and there are the occasional reminder of the love people have for me. Hey, have we decided what the international symbol for sarcasm is yet?

At the end of the day, FB has nothing to do with this place. At least not at this point. It has been hard enough to manage these boards without dabbling in the PR nightmare that is Facebook.

So, in short, people need a place where they can be entirely free of the constraints of civility. A place where there is no fear of posting something they might regret later, a place where people can commiserate with one other without having to hold their tongues. That place isn't within these message boards. Clearly that isn't rocket surgery.

Anyway, we are going to start making minor changes to the forums over the next week or so. Nothing drastic, just some minor section title changes and a considerable amount of stickie clean up. Maybe I can kick things up a notch and get a different type of discussion going early next week. Here is a little look:

Non-English Language Forums

I'm going to start a discussion on peoples thoughts about us expanding(yet changing) the non-english language forum sections. So for all of you who have opinions or suggestion, I'm going to start by having you contact me via site mail. Yes, people will start posting their suggestions in here but I feel site mail will allow you to go into much more detail.

Again, I will be starting this discussion in the Forums early next week. I have already received a great deal of feedback from a number of contributors but feel we might get some additional thoughts if we open a dialogue.

Occasionally I read the 'Man spricht deutsch' (great title!) forum. I hope you are not thinking about abolishing it.

It was always my dream as a kid to grow up to be a rocket surgeon, but I ended up doing science instead.

Oh, then I hope I have misunderstood, it was the 'yet changing' bit. Have to wait and see but for now yes, good news.

Content section. What does the company want from it's contributors.Just as important ,what it does not require anymore.

Two of the last three Scout decisions  i was sent the link to the need/not need list.

It might be a place to have the content team's  'briefs' displayed/discussed.

Forum functionality and organization is so low on the list of issues this company should be concerned with.

I was hoping we would get some sage advice from you on this. Thanks for your input.

You're welcome. Glad to help.

Just so you understand this isn't a Dev project. It's the mods and I moving things around using what limited functionality we have in place. Feel free to make suggestion.

I just felt the need to thank you guys for the latest forum management improvements.
Although I didn't actively partecipate in this thread (actually I didn't have nothing new to add) I really have to share this: the OP update thing is just awesome, it's really helpful having the summary of the main points of a thread as OP updates. Following a long thread has never been so easy

thx
