/I apologize if this has been mentioned before (I did try to check):

I would find it very helpful if posts by admins were conspicuously marked (simply because they're by an admin) in some way to make it easier to find them.  Here's an example of a situation in which I would find this very helpful:  I just looked at the BM thread (93 pages at this writing) and I see references to some good news from Search Fairy.  My immediate reaction is to look for Search Fairy's post, but the way things work now it's buried and hard to find.

What would be even more helpful is a button that delivers only posts authored by admins (on the basis they should be more authoritative).

Regards

CAUTION: Debbie Downer statement ahead.

"Pimp Thread of the Week" has a bit of negative connotation to it, if you know anything about human trafficking. Kids as young as eleven being handed over by their pimps to adults with cash isn't a very good metaphor for showing off your best photos. Besides that, it's just dumb, in my opinion.

If you read the OP of the BM thread - you will see all of the important admin posts have been copied to it and clicking on the name will take you directly to the post in question, so you can see it in context.

@KelvinJay:  It's nice someone did that, thanks to the responsible person/s.  My suggestion was not a comment on any thread in particular, I just thought the BM thread was a good example (perhaps not, given what you've just pointed out).

Historically, our Buyers have been challenged by Contributors when they comment on pricing issues. Personally, I feel both parties have a good argument when it comes to pricing. Both have limited resources in time and available budget.

What I was hoping to hear when I asked this question is what we could include in forum guidelines to make this a friendly place for Buyers. In your opinions, would the solution be pricing discussions are not allowed, period? Or would you want to hear their thoughts on that? If you want to hear them, can you be civil to our clients and to what extent? If you are not, what is the appropriate consequence?

I'd love to hear comments on this from everyone, especially those interested in Buyer specific forums. Like Lobo said, we do see some benefits of this idea.

:)

Ultimately, the only price which really matters is the one that works best for both buyers and contributors, ie. the equilibrium price where maximum sales occur. That's the highest revenue point and benefits everyone. There are obviously two sides, with the cost of producing work on one side and the price people are prepared to pay on the other. Maybe separating those out into two discussion forums is the answer.

I have a suggestion for the forum revamp. Have a category for copywrite/logo issues. Someplace where a contributer can post questions and have them answered BEFORE submitting images. Guidelines. Specific cases.

A couple areas I would have liked more guidance before submitting were ties and guitars. Scout was very helpful but has a lot to do already ;)

(taken from Newsletter discussion)

To all, please post suggestions for forums here rather than in the Newsletter discussion thread. I worry they'll get lost in there.

thanks!

How about redoing the entire Categorization naming scheme of the Topics?  Maybe even adding a TOP topic that is "Newsletter", or "News" that is information direclty from Getty/iStock......That way all Information, bug fixes etc are directly in One main topic rather a BROAD range of "discussion".  Then any threads started by buyers, contributors or whatever would be under a different Topic such as "discussion" or "questions" or "contributor news". etc......Just a thought.

Thanks for the update. But is there a reason why it is so hard / impossible to have a useable forum search? Technical reasons?

Thanks for the update. But is there a reason why it is so hard / impossible to have a useable forum search? Technical reasons?

A number of things:

1- The search currently only pulls from thread titles. So when a contributor starts a thread and they are cryptic or hilarious in the way they title their threads that what is searchable. Thats a contributor issue, if people were more clear in their titles we might have a slightly(slightly) better search.

2- It wouldn't be difficult if we would commit to a change in the platform/software/whathave you that the forums are generated from. As it happens, we are getting to a point where a change is imminent.

As previously stated we want to get things better organized before we do anything drastic. We know what we want to see happen. What we are attempting to do is gather some information on what organization needs the contributors have. This way we can meet accommodate everyone as much as can.

Alright, so maybe we will get Pink_cotton_candy will open a new thread to summarize the draft of the Organization changes this week so we can all see it in a new place.

It's currently added to the OP, take a look.. A reboot of the discussion to talk about required FAQs and the like will come shortly.

Thanks for all the feedback, folks. It's been good to see we are on a similar page with most of this stuff.

Would it be possible to make it easier for contributors to post their images in the Critique Forum without having to use Dropbox or similar services. I realise others do not seem to have any problems, so how about just doing it for me?

How about rather than using dropbox you just describe the photo via text so we can talk you through how to fix it with out looking at the file at all. We could use skype!
