I was wondering if someone can recommend a software package for editing audio files. I recently recieved a recorder and some mic's for some other work that I was doing and thought I could upload sound effects here. I will only be doing sound effects here and no musical, with the other work it is just cleaning up voice and setting start and stop points. Thanks in advance.

Let's try this in the audio forum instead.

Audacity - open source and would easily suit your needs.
Or if you're looking for something a bit more upmarket
Logic - Apple
If you use videos editing software (as I see you are a video contributor) adobe has soundbooth
Or Final Cut Pro has Soundtrack Pro
Then there's all sorts of software for both platforms - Cubase, pro tools, FL Studio and on

Audacity - free
Adobe Audition - pro
Wavelab - pro

/Izotope RX tools for both mac and pc
Great spectral editing tool, good for cleaning audio and other recording problems.

Thank, may start with the free audacity or bite the bullet and do the adobe subscription.

Audacity is all I use. Have tried Cubase but way overkill for basic sfx editing.
