The forum search isn't terribly good.
Using Google to search the forums is very good, but you need to know the right incantations.

This GreaseMonkey script adds a search box to the top of the forum pages
forumsearch1

and it generates a Google search in the appropriate format
forumsearch2

If you use the Chrome browser (highly recommended!) you can install the script directly from the Chrome store:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/istock-forum-search/pifkgllnmnnceilchbpnfhlkmbidnnaa

For other browsers, the script is available at http://www.theasis.co.uk/iStock/istock_forum_search.user.js

If you don't know what GreaseMonkey is, you might want to read Kelvin's post over here.

I should add:
I use this on Chrome - that's the only place I've tested it. I expect it to work on FireFox if you have the GreaseMonkey extension installed, or Safari if you have the GreaseKit extension installed. And if I remember rightly there's even an IE extension, but I know nothing about that.

Great! Now we've got about 28 days left to search all Sean's wise and helpful forum posts to copy and paste them before they disappear into thin air.

hey Martin - this it searches perfectly! but I notice that since installing it, when I click to last post in a thread (where it says 2 hours ago, for example), instead of staying on the last post, it shows the last post briefly then jumps to the top of the page. I notice my cursor is automatically in the search box whenever I go to a new page if that gives you any clues. Do you think that could be changed?

If you update it, that should be sorted now.

Kelvin lists a few of them here. Although those are mostly ones I wrote. There are others that Sean wrote, but since he doesn't live here anymore it's probably a good bet that he's not going to maintain them.

There is a sticky post at the top of this forum that everyone interested in scripts should read:

iStock Browser Scripts

All the currently maintained scripts are listed there.
