A basic question here. What is the plan for image ratings/reviews. Are they ever coming back?
Thanks.

I sure hope they stay gone. Its always seemed amateurish and better suited for Flickr and Facebook.... although I do know some people love that sort of stuff. |

It is kind of cool if you need to be externally validated but ratings always seemed like asking "Does this dress make me look fat?" You inevetibly won't get an honest answer, especially on a commercial site. |
Posted Fri Feb 22 9:41AM | It's something that is low on the totem pole of concerns right now. I hope no one expects anything official right now because I'm going to throw a wet blanket down for clarity: We will not have an official response on the Rating/Review portion of the community experience in a timely fashion.
If this thread turns into an ongoing complain thread about how we haven't brought them back yet, or that we should provide an official response please feel free to quote this post. I wont have anything to add in the near future so consider this as official as it gets.
Thank you, folks.

Posted Fri Feb 22 9:47AM | i liked ratings, less for buyers but for contributors. Positiv feedback is always good for the ego, a good ego is good for creating good images, and so good for overall turnover. |
Posted Fri Feb 22 12:55PM | I like the rating system. Not because any of my illustrations are highly rated (they aren't), but because, at least for vectors, you really can see the highest-quality images upfront. When you work at a big ad agency and you have a decent budget, it really doesn't matter whether an image costs $20 or $200; what matters is quality and suitability. Being able to see the best work on page 1 can save an art director a lot of time. |
Posted Fri Feb 22 1:06PM | Talking of which, the current situation has the effect of handicapping new files when it comes to "highest ratings" search feature. If the ratings are to be done away with (not a bad idea in my opinion) then perhaps it is time to also do away with the highest ratings search and replace it with some other search that makes more sense. Best Match A and Best match B for instance. |

This is a valid point. Since we are on indefinite hold regarding the ability to rate new files, it would make sense to eliminate search ordering based on ratings as this puts all files submitted from 6 months ago(?) to an indefinite point in the future at a disadvantage for such a search. Such a search is fundamentally misleading. |
Posted Fri Feb 22 1:37PM | I can live without ratings but I really miss the comments. If I see a particularly striking image I want to be able to say something to the creator without having to send a site mail. I'm lazy that way |

It wouldn't bother me over much if ratings never returned, though I did relish the (very) occasional Initial Rating!
Edited!

Posted Fri Feb 22 3:55PM | ^^ Initial ratings still happen. I've gotten a couple here and there over the past several months. Those always make me smile. As far as ratings in general, I can live without them. Every so often I see an image that blows me a way, so I'll find a way to get a comment to the artist. In terms of ratings and how they play in a best match system, in that context, the only people who should be allowed to give ratings are buyers... after they have made their purchase (IMHO). |

Fair enough. I'd be concerned if you said this was a high priority.
Comments were nice. Ratings were lame. The only things ratings were usefull for was b!tching about ugly Agency Collection files. And that didn't do any good anyway. |
            Posted Fri Feb 22 6:34PM |
I've witnessed huge abuse by people getting friends to rate simple images to boost search ratings in the 100s of 5 camera ratings. Ive also seen people abuse it by commenting ridiculous claims on files that do damage to a file for spite or else.
In other instances Ive seen it work for ratings and as info for buyers, and buyers really reviewing honestly which helps improve the service and get info across.
In any case buyers should be able to comment but we should be able to reply as copyright holders like any dispute elsewhere in order to get some type of defense or explanation across. Being civil in both instances of course. Many times is just a reaction to not understanding basic design concepts or need help getting the most out of a file.
In my view camera ratings should be gone so they aren't abused & should not hamper or promote search rating. Some have promoted the idea of a thumbs up only by buyers but not contributors to display satisfaction for their purchase without writing anything.
As Lobo says and I agree that should not be high on the priority list.

Posted Fri Feb 22 7:45PM | I agree that it should not be high on the priority list in terms of resources for implementation. At the same time, it's confusing to appear to have a rating system but in fact not have one for a prolonged period of time. It's already been on the order of 1/2 a year in limbo.

Same here
|
Posted Wed Feb 27 6:23PM | I feel they were obsolete lately. They were nice in the beginning where the community sense was more present. Nowadays I felt they were just taking up space. Not going to miss them, really... |
Posted Wed Feb 27 10:37PM | why is there a'highest ratings" group in the contributors lounge? |
Posted Thu Feb 28 2:56PM | I really miss the ratings and comments too, I hope that kind of fun will be back on the site. |
Posted Thu Feb 28 3:18PM | I like it... bring it back. |
