Say what you mean to say. Go on. It's much more fun when everyone is in on the joke.

was ratings ever part of BM? - seeing as you can sort by ratings, so it must count for something.

Personally I think it was one of the ways to get feedback, and a good one too. I used to check ratings and rate the pictures I liked when I saw them. I'd love to have it back, maybe in a simpler form like the "like" "don't like" thing we are all used to on facebook.

Then of course, some people tried to use it to gain extra visibility. Whether it worked or not I don't know, but I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult to avoid this.

On the whole though I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. I guess I can survive ,-)

I liked ratings. I often see a picture that I like very much and it was nice when I could give it a rating. But maybe something similar to a like button would be better and it could give a 5 rating, so you do not have to change the rating format.

I don't mind ratings, but I do think they should be limited to only thoses that have downloaded the content. I also agree it doesn't give newer files much of a chance when searching by ratings.

While the ratings are fun, do they really increase sales?

It would be great if the rating count for the best match sorts in our portfolio for example ! (even though the rating is already a possibilities of sorts ...)

If ratings effected BM it could easily be manipulated.

The only ratings that count are sales from buyers. A photo can receive lots of high ratings and great comments, but if no one buys the image, what does it matter?

I could see people who download the image encouraged to leave feedback, otherwise, it was never really productive.

As a buyer, I always used the rating to sort the photos. Although there has been abuse, the first 100 photos obviously had a much higher quality than the "best match" sort order. Now I have to click throught hundreds of boring and uninspired photos.

I gave up rating after I gave one poor image a slightly less than perfect rating and the offended party then low balled twenty of mine in revenge! Another person low-rated several images and when I asked them why they said they didn't understand the system and thought that they had high-rated them.

I enjoyed very much the comments, not only from my country but from folks in other countries with different viewpoints. I felt a sense of community when I would take the time to look at many newer artist submitting their images and being able to share comments that I know were helpful to the photographers. I did not like the rating system. Once I  had one low rating because, after I site mailed them why? They responded they did not like the subject, it was a banana tree.

Lose the rating forever, encourage community with positive and/or constructive comments IMHO.

Always interesting to me that when you sorted images by ratings, you got near as dammit to the quality you'd find by organising the images by downloads. It just provided another opportunity to see our images reshuffled by another means, and it would be good to see their return.
