hi everyone! we're super excited to be underway with our promised forum reorganization. I wanted to let you know that we do have some fun things in store for our new and improved Social Discussions (formerly off-topic) forum. I'm thrilled to be your moderator & guide in this section and, of course, the guys will be around too

For now, I'll let you find your way around the reorganization. Besides rearranging all the forums, the biggest changes to the forums we moved into this community section are only to the titles of the forums:
* Off-Topic to Social Discussions
* iStock in Action to Show & Tell

Eventually, we'll be making more changes but, with the exception of what is inside this Social Discussions forum, it will pretty much be business as usual in those forums. To put your minds at ease, we will be creating more group threads, motivational and inspirational, we won't be removing any of the existing social groups. To the folk in the social groups, be prepared to look for your group thread lower than 7th or 8th place in the list.

One thing for you all to know coming up very soon - I announced that Weekly Showcase and Media Mashup start days will change to Wednesdays this week. Both threads will find a new home in the Social Discussions forum. I'll be posting a new theme this Wednesday in here so if you didn't post in the Spring threads, now is the time before they're locked and moved to Lightbox forum. Please note, due to lack of response on Media Mashup thread, we may be revamping how it works. If you want to have a say, please take a moment to post. We are also planning to move our monthly stats thread in here.

We have added a Social Discussion Guidelines sticky up top to help you understand what we can talk about in here and what is available. I'll be adding to this sticky as time goes on, please pay attention to it. This will be used in conjunction with our new Civics Guide in the iStock Discussion forum.

Everyone is welcome to participate in all the fun we'll have in here. We have a lot more in store, and I'm really excited to start sharing it with you all soon!

Discuss if you like but please understand, this discussion is ONLY for the Community section. It is not about the forum reorganization. Let me know if I can be more clear with this information.

Should this be an announcement?

Nope, it's specific to the Social Forums as Dawn would like to see about enhancing the social experience. It's not iStock Specific it's more Community Forum specific. Most people who come into the previously-known-as the offtopic forum congregate in the previously-known-as race threads. It's pretty isolated in there and most of the threads have a considerable amount of overlap(meaning people post in at least two of the three established threads. In short, it's already pretty complicated for newbies to find a place in the social sphere. Those race threads are essentially social cliques that have been established over the years.

So how do we broaden the horizons of the Community Forum. Do we continue down the path of crafting NEW cliques to accommodate NEW contributors? Which of the three cliques are more liable to allow more members. DO we need an inter-clique dodgeball tournament?

You tell us. Let us know what you think about the potential of these newly crafted forums. It's entirely up to you. All we want to do is to try and accommodate some opportunities for the people who continually feel like they are on the outside of things.

I meant an announcement IN the Social Forums - sticky at the top or something? I wouldn't have checked it out if I wasn't grazing and curious, and it's a bit quiet here. But you dropping in, Lobo, should do the trick And thanks for adding some more info.

I think we would like to really leverage this section to engage the community in a more fun and entertaining way. Most people use Facebook as their new off-topic, which is entirely understandable. However, we have a bunch of people who live on these forums so it would be nice to provide a little more real estate to allow for some growth!

It will take some time to get people in here. When we release the next Newsletter we will have a piece about the Community Forums so we can get some additional people poking around.

It's true, seeing that you (Lobo) made the last comment is what made me check out this thread when I did. I'm sure I would have gotten to it eventually though.

I guess that means I better continue commenting! YAY!

I very rarely look in on the former race threads but i do keep an eye on other off topic threads as they appear out of interest. I think the race thread names, their history and association play big part of why i pass over and avoid most of the time 99.9% of the time. When i have on occasion looked in, there are some great people sharing vauable advice and wisdom. I can see they have a positive motivational, learning and bonding effect that benifits those who particapate, but still feels like an exclusive old boys club, warm and cosy on the inside but cold and unwelcoming from the outside. Anyway these threads in their present format are not for me.

Personally they need to shake off their past and be reborn. If they were blended or replaced by a forum with a name like 'Chatterbox' or 'The Snug' or some other name that suited them, inviting everyone proactively etc.., then they would be more appealing to me. Maybe i'm just being silly about the whole thing! Carry on .

^You're not being silly. Interesting points, good observations, and I totally understand. In my case, a relative newbie at stock, it became a complete waste of time to post in the "main" forum discussions due to the dismissive, derisive, divisive and haughty reactions from many of those who consider(ed) themselves "real, seasoned, whatever" contributors. So I haven't even looked at anything in the main discussion forum for at least a month - and honestly don't plan to anymore.

Tea for some, coffee for others, I guess. Tough dilemma to be sure.
